A. L I was looking at a reviewers comments about Sinners where he mentioned 30 Days of Night so here I am. How this only received 50% is beyond me. This is a FANTASTIC movie! Solid acting and a great story. The vampires are cruel and vicious. On that note, I like more supernatural based vampires. Those who need permission to enter homes, etc. and who are stopped by crosses and holy water. The people in this film are believable and the heroes sacrifice makes sense. No cool vampires in this speaking with foreign accents. No grand scheme to find some special object to live in the sun. No love story where the vampire looks for his/her lost love. If you love vampires, see this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/25 Full Review Dylan S I do think this film has some cool and original moments, and the camera work is quite good, but I do think the way the vampires speak is quite silly and some of the acting performances fall a little flat. If you go into it without high hopes I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, but if you're expecting something amazing you will most likely be dissapointed Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Jordan B What if the sun disappeared for an entire month, and you saw eyes in the darkness? 30 Days of Night is a 2007 horror thriller directed by David Slade, starring Josh Hartnett, Melissa George, and Danny Huston. The movie takes place in Barrow, Alaska, where an extended period of darkness known as a “polar night” occurs. This entices the nearby vampires to prey on the isolated town until daylight returns. The film is good with fast pace when it wants to, but sometimes falls short on execution of the clashes. It also has predictable moments, but still delivers a gripping experience. The film follows Sheriff Eben Oleson as he and the residents of Barrow, Alaska prepare for the annual 30-day polar night. However, when communications to outside are suddenly severed, it becomes clear that something sinister is in the town. A terrifying pack of vampires descends on the town, forcing Eben and a small group of survivors to evade the bloodthirsty creatures while searching for a way to outlast the deadly month. Director David Slade does an excellent job building suspense and creating a genuinely eerie atmosphere. The way the film reveals the vampires' brutal natures keeps the tension high. The pacing is generally strong, only lacking in certain action points, though the middle’s tension being drawn out makes up for some of it. Josh Hartnett delivers a solid performance as Eben, portraying a reluctant but determined leader. Melissa Huston did a good job portraying Stella, Eben’s wife, adding emotional weight to the story as well as to the struggle of survival. And Danny Huston’s performance as the lead vampire, Marlow, was outstanding. His convincing cold, calculated demeanor made him a terrifying antagonist. Outside of some side characters feeling underdeveloped while others are given some story, the characters are given weight and all of them feel important. I enjoyed the unique setting and idea. The way the vampires were portrayed also made them feel like they were such an immediate threat unlike some other films where the main antagonist is just the “big bad”. I did not like some of the interesting decisions by some of the characters and the dialogue being cliché at times. But overall, the film did well and delivered a suspenseful horror experience for horror fans to enjoy. 30 Days of Night is an intense and visually striking horror film that offers a fresh and brutal take on the vampire genre. While not perfect, its figuratively cold atmosphere, thrilling, and brutal antagonists make it a great movie for thriller and horror fans alike. I give the movie a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Would you be able to survive? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Tanner B 30 days of night David Slade Josh Hartnett as Eben Oleson, Melissa George as Stella Oleson, Danny Huston as Marlow, Ben Foster as The Stranger, Mark Boone Junior as Beau Brower 30 days of night will take on the ride of your life with a whole month of no sun and hungry vampires. 30 Days of Night takes place in Barlow, Alaska where the residents fight to survive 30 days, a whole month of night with blood-crazy vampires trying to eat you. This film creates a scary and thrilling atmosphere and horror-filled as the survivors try to outsmart and outlast their predators. I gave this film “30 Days of Night” a 5/5 rating because it is very intense and action packed with it going from a regular town to a full on vampire buffet. The creepy setting and all of the almost nonstop action kept me on edge the whole film. The actors played there parts very good, and the ending was perfect. This film was a 5/5 and took me on an entertaining and bloody journey. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Ozzie D The movie 30 days of night was a spectacular movie. Eben and stella team up with a group of people to fight vampires in a town where there are 30 days of night once a year. I love the sound effects used to portray the vision the directors had. I did think the monologue at points was very cheesy but overall it was a great movie that i continue to recommend to people in my life. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Kaiden B In the movie 30 Days of Night, Josh Hartnett plays a sheriff in a small town named Eben while he and his family are stuck while vampires are killing his entire town. I wouldn't recommend this movie to others as it's the same as almost every other vampire horror movie. The only interesting scene was possibly the fastest in the entire movie with no distinct actions in it. Josh has semi-decent acting within this movie same as other cast members. The hard watch of this movie was the overacting vampires, the language they speak along with gross but somewhat realistic feedings, it had just made it a horrible movie to watch as someone who doesn't like horror films. There was nothing that stood out within this film to make it memorable. It felt like every other vampire/love story movie anyone has ever watched. The camera angles of the vampires were just plain cheesy. “30 days of night” just felt like one big all-nighter, there was no distinct difference between any of the days. In my opinion, if your looking for a vampire movie, go watch The Twilight Saga: Eclipse made by the same director. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
