A Guy Thing Reviews

Apr 18, 2025

Lewd, crude, mysoginistic, mildly funny but unbelievable. Lame predictable plot.

Sometimes it's good to watch a movie which doesn't require much overthinking. Julia Stiles and Jason Lee Paul were ideal for their roles. I enjoyed the comedy throughout especially the preacher scenes. If you're looking for a film with lots of clever ideas or something new don't look here, but if you want to be entertained for a couple of hours you're sure to find some laughs here. I don't think you'll find many surprised here. I found the outcome predictable, but Julia Stiles part made the movie worth watching for me.

I laugh out loud every time I see this movie! The entire cast is so funny from an unemployed pot head who lives to cook becomes an last minute chef for his rehearsal dinner prior to getting married. You have to watch entire movie yes it's stupid funny but made my day! Not a predictable movie that's why I love it!

Funny on occasion thanks mostly to the cast. The story never figures out what it wants to be. Mostly it is gross.

Very familiar feeling movie with good laughs.

I thought this movie was laugh out loud funny. Lots of funny gags. I don't know why people were complaining about the script. After all the terrible reviews I wasn't expecting much, so I was pleasantly surprised. Julia Stiles was adorable, as usual. I thought she and Jason Lee had good chemistry. I'd watch this again, which I can't say about too many movies.

Fun, not too serious RomCom. Not sure why everyone is dumping on it. I enjoyed it.

Despite not being that great I could watch a million of these over and over 2.9

This romcom never has really bad moments, but it lacks cohesiveness. The main problem is that it's not clear why the female lead (Julia Stiles) should want the male lead (Jason Lee).

Decent watch, might watch again, but hard to recommend. Don't get me wrong, I like the movie: it's well casted, has a decent story and production value, but even at the time of release, it wasn't great. There are some really funny moments, and if I were Jason Lee, I think I would have some trouble choosing between Selma Blair and Julia Stiles too, but it's mostly "what awful things can we do to him" humor. Ants under a magnifying glass just aren't all that satisfying. The upside is that there are some very cleverly crafted characters and acting even beyond that. There are plenty of probably better movies out there, especially after all this time.

Light entertainment. Enjoyable...

A cliche romantic comedy but does have its moments and Jason Lee does well as a leading man which he has proven to do well in the 온라인카지노추천 series My Name Is Earl and the cult Kevin Smith comedy Mallrats. Even if you're not a fan of romantic comedies I would say it's worth a watch and Jason Lee and Julia Stiles do have good chemistry.

no idea how to rate this, but the abundance of "that graceful Howard" jokes genuinely makes up for some of the toxic masculinity BS. And the main guy's failure to fit into it. watch it when you're bored and drunk and want to mock masculinity. It didn't hit the depressing mark for some reason. It felt very natural for being mocked and not to be taken seriously, but given the nature of masculinity/bachelor parties and the early 2000's it could easily be dead serious.

A funny, but somewhat uninspired, by the numbers rom-com.

It's good movie to watch

I like Jason Lee, but...

Here is an example of classy casting stepping in to perform the heimlich maneuver on a script as stiff as a plank. Jason Lee carries this movie squarely on his shoulders. His acting gives the entire cast a strong foundation to build their characterisation on. Thanks to some great performances directed by the trustworthy hands of Chris Koch (one of the Scrubs directors), this movie manages to keep the audience laughing. Unfortunately, the ensemble team of screenwriters fall on their faces with a terrible, movie-shattering script. It must be clearly stated that not all these writers are to blame. Matt Tarses, probably better known as a screenwriter behind Scrubs; and Bill Wrubel, one of the sixteen original Will & Grace producers who went on to write Ugly Betty and Modern Family seem to have been brought in to doctor the original script. This was most likely a decision made by Koch. The culprits here are Peter Schwaba and Greg Glienna. Don't worry if you haven't heard these names before, they aren't worth hearing about. Schwaba's next filmmaking endeavor was 2006's The Godfather of Green Baby, which looks like an horrific biopic that I pray never to watch. The box office has been kinder to Glienna, who grossed over $28 million with his 1992 filmmaking debut Meet the Parents (an embryonic version of Meet the Fockers). A Guy Thing grossed just over $15 million in comparison. I'm not one to give the box office any credence, but in this case it has proven a shrewd signpost to the fate of both writer's careers; after 2006, they don't seem to have written again. And thank God almighty these lackluster screenwriters have put their pens down. Lets hope they are smart enough to never write another script for the screen again.

The first rule of doing a comedy is to be funny. 'A Guy Thing' forgot that rule.

Jason lee was pretty bad in this and the comedy was so forced....I laughed maybe once. ...A cast of this caliber shouldn't be wasted on really what was an interesting premise.... everything was forced.... I don't recommend this one.
