Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein Reviews

Feb 1, 2025

Comedy classic that merges the Universal monsters brilliantly with some witty humor and fun performances. The cast is superb, with Abbott & Costello their usual excellence as the leads, while Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr. bring gravitas to their monster roles. Behind the camera, director Charles Barton delivers a fun movie that wisely treats the monsters seriously while leaving the comedy to Abbott and Costello. He crafts some hilarious sketches and keeps the pace moving fast. All in all, one of the best horror comedies ever.

Here is the original multiverse crossover event of the decade!

3.5 stars. Easily my favorite Abbott and Costello movie, and it ranks up there with all the Universal creature movies in entertainment value. I thought it was a neat blend of comedy and horror. It contains an all-star cast minus Boris Karloff (who turned down the Frankenstein monster role), although Glenn Strange is a veteran of horror and other movies and played the Frankenstein monster in "The House of Dracula." Considering it was mostly a comedy, Lon Chaney, Jr., and Bela Lugosi gave admirably serious performances playing the Wolf Man and Dracula.

The best and most famous of Abbott and Costello's movies. This has an all star cast as well. Featuring Glenn Strange as Frankenstein's Monster, Lon Chaney Jr. being The Wolf Man once more, and Bela Lugosi returning to the role of Count Dracula.

Classic movie. The monsters are great. Loved this as a kid

This was the funniest horror movie I've seen. It definitely wasn't that scary, but it had a few tiny scary moments

Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein is an amazing movie. I finished it just now so it is fresh in my head. Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein was a really funny movie, and guess what? I LOVE comedy!!! I think that this movie was one of the first crossover movies ever. Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein was also a really interesting movie. I just watched Dracula, and the same Dracula actor was in the movie. He looked much much older than he did in 1931. What a good movie. I give this a 74%.

It was so bad that it was funny.

Amusing, Harmless. With nice old school horror sets, Classic Universal monsters battle it out. And wackiness ensues.

One of the best horror-comedy of all time is really fun and outrageously very funny and fun to see your favorite loveable Universal Monsters.

How fun it is to see these older movies on the big screen. The physical humor and the subtleties come through strongly. And while in some A&C movies, Abbott is really mean to Costello, here the monsters take up so much of the action that the boys are more of a team. This is a great one to see with the whole family. One of A&C's movies that holds up best.

Still one of the best!

Expert way to breathe some new life into the old Montsers. Some horror fans, who take things too seriously might be annoyed that this is taking the piss with these classic characters, but seriously, this is the most entertaining they've been in quite a few entries. Plus it's awesome seeing Lugosi back in the Dracula role one more time.

What's there to say? It's a classic. See it.

Probably the best of the latter Universal films. In black and white the comedy was funnier, in black and white the horror was scarier. All involved are great. Always loved Lon Chany Jr. As the wolfman. He's fantastic. The horror is played straight. But the comedy is still funny. That's the way I like it.

Classic monsters & classic comedy, in one movie? Yes!! And don't listen to any rubbish reviews that tell you the monsters have been reduced to buffoonery. Abbott & Costello are at their best, & so are the monsters! What more can one ask for!

Dracula's on first, Frankie's on second, and the Wolf Man? Third base!

It's a perfectly constructed horror-comedy movie...a combination of the Universal monsters world and the best comedy duo of the 40s and 50s. Stay tuned to the very last scene to check the box of all monsters to appear in the movie. And you have Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr., and listen for a cameo of Vincent Price!

My favorite of their films.

Classic Abbott and Costello. The second and final appearance of Lugosi as Dracula. Decent B-movie. Disregards where these characters are at the end of House of Dracula.
