Benji C Good movie. Thank you Walt Disney! My favourite character is Ichabod Crane. my least favourite character is Mr.Toad. My favourite part is when Ichabod is alone in the woods at night and his imagination plays tricks on him. My least favourite part is when they all sing to Ichabod that he is a scaredy-cat. The title promised me a crossover between The Wind in the Willows and Sleepy Hollow but I got two half-hour shorts that have no relation to each other whatsoever! I'll be waiting for Disney to fix this when another Kingdom Hearts game comes out! Joking aside, I actually found The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad to be breezy fun. They're not really trying to be deep or epic, they're just two enjoyable cartoons with some hilarious slapstick, occasional witty dialogue and good animation, especially in the climactic chase scenes of both segments. Admittedly, the Sleepy Hollow segment has a similar issue as It's a Wonderful Life has with Christmas where, despite the heavy association with Halloween, that aspect doesn't come into play until the climax. The Headless Horseman is definitely the most memorable part of this package film and I do think that it's a nice touch that it's left ambiguous whether or not he was real or if Ichabod Crane was suffering from an overactive imagination. Thanks to the clearly played-for-laughs reactions of Ichabod, it's definitely not Disney at its darkest when compared to the movies that don't identify as horror/suitable for Halloween such as Pinocchio or Hunchback of Notre Dame, but it is a good starting point for children getting into more spooky stuff. I'll admit that it was weird to compile these two shorts together because of how tonally dissimilar they are to each other but there are much weaker entries in the Disney Animated Canon than this film. Maybe people should take a third option like some do with The Nightmare Before Christmas and watch this film in November because of "Ichabod"'s Halloween association whilst "Mr. Toad" is set around Christmastime. Or just watch the segments individually since it's not as if there's a framing device connecting these two together. Whatever floats your boat. While I'm a huge Disney fan, the decision to combine two vastly different stories into one film feels disjointed. Mr. Toad's segment is decent, with him being an entertaining character full of energy, but the overall story didn’t grab me. It’s quirky and fun, but not my favorite. On the other hand, *The Legend of Sleepy Hollow* has always been a story I love. The Halloween atmosphere is great, and Disney's old animation style really shines here. Unfortunately, the pacing is all over the place, and many parts felt boring and dragged out. I’ve seen much better versions of Sleepy Hollow that captured the tension and eerie feeling more effectively. Still, the music and nostalgic charm save this segment from being a total letdown. Overall, it’s worth watching, but it falls short in execution.
