Arkansas Reviews
Vince Vaughn good, story ok, badly edited, Hemsworth can’t act other than look groomed good, muddled. Malkovich retired years prior.
Good directorial debut. Solid acting all around. Decent crime thriller plot.
Movie is better than the aggregate rating Imo. Has some light hearted moments but is a true gangster type movie. Great soundtrack. Really good individual acting performances by the main cast.
I think it is pretty cool that Clark Duke wrote the adapted screenplay, directed, and acted in this. It was reminiscent of a Tarantino film. I enjoyed it.
Arkansas: A Gritty Tale of Crime and Consequences "Arkansas" is a compelling journey into the heart of America's underbelly, where the lines between right and wrong blur in the pursuit of survival. Directed by Clark Duke, this film is a masterful blend of dark humor and suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The narrative unfolds with a clever structure, weaving together the lives of two small-time drug dealers, Kyle (Liam Hemsworth) and Swin (Clark Duke), as they navigate the treacherous waters of the Southern drug underworld. The film's portrayal of these characters is both raw and endearing, making you root for them despite their flawed decisions. John Malkovich delivers a standout performance as Ranger Bright, a drug kingpin with a twisted sense of morality. His interactions with Kyle and Swin are both menacing and oddly humorous, showcasing Malkovich's range as an actor. "Arkansas" shines in its ability to balance the tension of a crime thriller with the levity of Southern charm. The dialogue crackles with authenticity, and the film's atmosphere is rich with the gritty reality of life on the fringes. It's a story that's as much about the human condition as it is about crime, making it a thought-provoking piece that lingers long after the credits roll. In conclusion, "Arkansas" is a must-watch for fans of neo-noir and crime dramas. It's a film that pays homage to the genre while carving out its own unique place in the cinematic landscape. With strong performances, sharp writing, and an engaging plot, "Arkansas" is a standout film that deserves its place in the spotlight.
I loved the soundtrack and characters. This movie is a lost gem of the quarantine era.
I thought the actors did a decent job, but I gave it a one-star due to the lame storyline. The writers needed some honest feedback before they started filming and shame on everyone who encouraged this production. It seemed like the movie lasted for three hours and I wanted my money back as this was time wasted that I can't get back. Worst movie we've watched in a while.
I actually enjoyed this film. It had its own style and kept me interested in the characters.
How the story played out wasn't surprising but how Duke chose to show it unfolding was highly entertaining.
Every actor in the movie did a fantastic job at stepping outside of their normal roles; Specifically Clark Duke. He goes from nerdy stuttering, to a very confident, criminal. Fantastic acting! Liam allows room for other character to flourish, while still maintaining his lead role. Vince once again, showcases his new found talent for not only embracing... but emerging himself, and becoming the role he took.
Considering the mediocre reviews, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie.
Perfect movie for that type of movie.
You have to listen closely to all the words of wisdom, sarcastic digs, and other goodies hidden in the dialog. The movie plot isn't anything groundbreaking, but it is worth the watch. The extra value comes from those philosophical insights that the mainstream would prefer you not to hear, and the great acting by Malkovich and the rest of the cast.
Good Enough ...Plot is simple but effective, same goes for the characters...Its not Kill Bill or Pulp Fiction but takes less focus for a decentmovie experience
Simply put, this movie isn't for everyone. I loved it. It had the same pacing as Drive, which again, wasn't for everyone. Good flick.
Fantastic acting, great story, humor is placed perfectly and a truly enjoyable film. Rock On And Much Respect goes out to all involved in the making of the film ARKANSAS!
I liked it. Gets better as it goes along. Clearly some influence from Quentin Tarantino, but more laid back. Not sure why it didn't get better reviews overall. Vince Vaughn was great, pretty low key in this role but otherwise classic Vince.
This movie is absolutely one of the weakest movies I've seen in a very long time …. Waste two hours of your life watching this for me
The movie was really weak. The writing was flat and laughable at times, characters unlikable, there was ultimately nothing worthwhile in the movie, it was a complete waste of two hours. Please do not waste your time, there are far better crime movies out there.
ARKANSAS didn't work or me. It seemed to want to be a comedy, a film noir, a crime movie and didn't really connect as any of them. Too bad, good cast wasted on a poor screenplay.
