Assisted Living Reviews
This film wouldn't be the same had it not been shot in an actual nursing home with residents and staff participating. There are some things that just can't be faked or acted, and for anyone that has ever worked in, been to, or visited a loved one in a nursing home, that would be one of them. The relationship that 'Todd' develops with the residents (in particular Mrs. Pearlman), is touching and real, and goes deep enough to make this film thought provoking. Check your IFC listings.
This was listed as a comedy, and I suppose for a bit there are some funnyish moments. Poop gets real though, at which point things take a turn for the significantly sad. The summary and a couple of the reviews down there seem to write off Todd's early antics as pure self-amusement, and maybe that's fair, but that's not entirely how I "read" it.
though the characters and plot are under developed, michael bonsignore is just so lovable and perfect in his role. -am i there? - sure. put me on. hilarious!
This is just one of those films, that at first seems to be centered around a small and insignificant focus of morals..like the neglect this nursing home resident recieves from her drug addicted son. But what its really about is the ease with which a relationshiop can become convoluted- even when it hasn't been touched in years, and this is what makes this film absolutely striking. Old people are pretty cute.
humorous. loved the plot, fresh take on cinematography, & fantastic muddling btw real actors and real people/non-actors. bonsignore was awesome too. [also, watch the special features. new director.]
funny i like it when the old people thought they were talking to god on the phone. and the relationship b/w michael and maggie was pretty great.
The storytelling builds a bit awkwardly, and the characters are a little thin, but the sense of place is strong. A humorous, emotional miniature.
Getting old is sometimes sad. Nothing is harder, however, to see a loved one slip away gradually from a disease like Alzheimer's. So here's a movie about Todd, a janitor at an assisted living facility who ends up befriending someone who has been, so to speak, left behind. Touching, sad, sweet, and not too long. This quirky little comedy was much enjoyed.
if i wasn't so busy seeing clients, i would track down this kid and satlk him, what a cutie, but seriously, great, great, flick about getting older and how much its gonna suck.
really makes you wonder about becoming old and the terrible truth that many elderly individuals do not get the loving care they deserve. a good movie to awaken the senses.
A sweet and interesting film. Also very sad. But yeah, definitely worth watching. Especially if you like watching old people be adorable.
