Bank of Dave Reviews
Enjoyed Joel Fry. Loved his character in Yesterday. Nice to see him in more of a lead role & serious type. Rory Kinnear came onto my radar in the last year. Before then maybe just quick spots. He can do it all. I thought he’d be a bigger part actually. The movie did start out that way, but focused more on Joel after that. Aside from the acting, the story was good. And the soundtrack was great.
A feelgood movie with familiar tropes, but the true story lurking beneath (quite a long way beneath) makes it a bit more special.
This is a love story. None of the pros seem to see this. Fry is utterly adorable as he shows us falling in love, telling us by the conversation with his friend about baby and family thatt he wants that also. Hi embarrased turn at kareoke is masterfully done. I watched it over and over." Oh, no I havent said enough" So many double meanings and clever assides. This film is vastly under rated and we need more like it Please!
Although not entirely true it is a very heartwarming story. I like how community is at the centre of every decision they make in this film.
Nice to see Rory kinnear in lead for once. Perfectly pitched. A feel good movie All the way to the Bank!
A lovely story, and a lovely movie. Can't wait till movie 2
I loved this film!! Really heartfelt and great to see the ordinary people take on the rotten establishment.
Great fun, feel good movie based on a true story.
Superbly cast, feel good film. Well paced, captivating story, and a great finale. A must watch film.
So so good! I love that this is based on a true story. The acting is great, the energy is authentic, the chemistry is charming. Talk about a feel good movie. Let’s make Banks of Dave happen in America, please! 🙏
I wonder if this would have been a better documentary. Perfectly fine movie.
Excellent film, well told and the acting was decent. A real feel good film which I suspect many of us need.
I'm from the area where it's based so it meant a bit more to me. I enjoyed it and the acting was really good. We used to go and watch Def Leppard practising, before they got famous so loved their involvement. Good true story.
Tough to beat this movie. If you are a movie critic snob you might talk about the simplistic way it tugs at the heart strings... But isn't that the point? And it does it so well. Yes, a little predictable but when movies are this good nobody should care.
A heart warming, surprisingly entertaining film that was inspirational. The fact that it is a "trueish" story (there words not mine) only made it all the more delightful.
A great light hearted film that can be viewed as a family. A fresh change!
BANK OF DAVE offers an uplifting underdog tale with low-key charms, loosely based on actual events. Unfortunately the movie makes more of Dave's accomplishments than the real story (at least as it has developed so far), but the film still delivers plenty to like and perhaps even to find inspiration in.
A big city vs small town story set in England is already a refreshing change from the American versions of the story. Add to that, a plot that, as the movie claims, is 'trueish' to real life and is a smart, earnest story about Dave and his love for his community. Absolutely adored the characters and the stick it to the man feeling of this movie. It's also refreshing to see that the lawyers are actually on Dave's side and any apathy from their end is just towards the procedural bullshit. Only negative for me was the romance plot. I liked both characters but it felt shoehorned in and out of place. A great watch for a chill Friday evening!
This is one of those feel-good British movies that makes everything simple and formulaic. Dave is all good. The London lawyer is superior and judgmental until the small towners set him straight. The London bankers are evil... It's based on a true story, but the way it's told feels unrealistic. I much prefer a happy story with some realism and three-dimensional characters.
