Martin (Jörg Schüttauf) was imprisoned in an East German jail, but when he is released in 2001, life has changed dramatically: the Berlin Wall has been down for years, and there is only one Germany -- all of which is painfully strange. Martin tries to reconnect with his ex-wife, Manuela (Julia Jäger), and son, Rokko (Robin Becker), whom he doesn't know. More difficult still, he must accustom himself to a new sense of freedom that was impossible in the surveillance state in which he grew up.
