Fr. Chris Carpenter
Movie Dearest
The feature debut of promising Colombian director Jorge Navas. Often brutal but ultimately touching.

I had the pleasure to see 'la sangre y la lluvia' at the local film festival and this movie is the best one I have ever seen at the festival. Pretty much all of the story takes place on a rainy night. The director does a great job with creating this dark and cold atmosphere and situating a spark of hope being the lead characters relationship within this setting. The atmosphere just stays with you. It's like something dark crawls on you that makes you feel uncomfortable and unclean. I couldn't shake it off for days. Certainly not a good feeling to walk around with but kudos to the filmmaker and actors for creating a lasting impact. I really hope that more people discover this Colombian 'film noir'.
