While there is good acting . This film does little for me . The relationship between Leo and connelly feels forced and it only purpose is to set up and emotional ending, which for me doesn’t land.

All Time Classic. Phenominal performances across the board. Where there is some shortcomings in the first half it they make up for in character depth and development with rich layered characters caught in a terrible situation while also a opportunistic one. DiCaprio's character grew on me as things went on and he opened up more and was less a soldier of fortune and more of a man who got dealt a bad hand in life. Connelly is really good and has great chemistry with DiCaprio too. The villians are really good too. While not a lot of depth the brutality is what makes them memorable and stand out. The direction is solid, really good cinematography, and excellent special effects. Tons of practical effects and the end battle is first rate. This does a great job immersing you in the world of Blood Diamond trades and the war/fallout of it. This has multiple brutal scenes in it as well especially anything with the child soldiers. The one shortcoming is the battles and violent scenes kind of come out of nowhere at times and if there is one area this struggles is trying to balance the overall conflict with the diamond story/ 3 characters. But it does a great job overall. It makes the choice to really commit in the second half to the characters and the conflict takes a backseat which is what sends this over the top despite the shortcomings. The second half is filled with character drama, the best action scene, and a satisfying moving ending for all three characters. The editing and pacing overall thanks to that is excellent. The music is really good too though it can be a bit subdued and not very catchy on it's own but well used. This can be a bit on the nose at first too with it's blood diamond message but it becomes so much more subdued when the characters take over in the second half. Everyone should give this a try once.

18, almost 19 years apart from the release of Blood Diamond, this movie is already a sensation, a must watch for thriller lovers. I figure there is not much I can talk about this movie, in 2024, that has missed reviews back then, but I will give it a shot. Let's start with what is wrong in this movie, the things that don't work. Even though this movie is rated R, we see little violence overall compared to what a true R movie is nowadays. This lack of explicitness has a toll on the character development of Dia Vandy, especially at the later stages of the film. The feud implied by characters Colonel Coetzee and Danny Archer due to Danny's failure is too simplistic. Yes, Danny's apartment gets trashed, but that is the extent of the damage. Maybe this side story could have added additional tension to the overall story arc. The love arc between characters Danny and Maddy Bowen is also lacking a bit. Feels to pure and fantastic, especially when character Maddy explicitly asks Danny if they are not going to “do it”, but, then later, their love is pretty much Platonic, idealized and ramped up to muse level. One negative thing that truly stands out is America's involvement on it all. The story makes it like America is the one peacemaker, the bringers of True Democracy and Fairness, the Eagle of Justice here to defend the oppressed and poor. We all know how trueful that is, how much America likes to get involved in things. But all this is little compared to the power this movie has. Nit-pickings for the sake of this review, they exist but they remove little from the overall story. The story itself is a great depiction of conflict diamond exploration, its price on Africans, the lives it destroys, the lives it builds. A story about the cruel world of a continent's richness exploration and salvaging. A powerful drama exposing all this to the world to the lens of great actors. Enough said.

It was a quality and very nice movie, the acting was good, but something happened that I didn't want, those who watched the movie will understand, other than that, it's a watchable movie.

Flawed but compelling social drama.

I am a big fan of Leo, and of this movie aswell. Beautiful screenplay, exquisite acting and top notch plot. The story seems sincere and realistic, and the ending delivers aswell. It gives all of us something to think about.
