Blood Work Reviews
Not one of Eastwood's best, though it still retains a mark of quality.
good clint eastwood film good detective movie good twists great performances by clint eastwood and jeff bridges
This was a nice surprise, a police thriller with a twist, good one Mr. Eastwood.
During a federal investigation into a local homicide, FBI Special Agent Terry McCaleb (Clint Eastwood) goes outside to address the media, but spots the so-called "code murderer" in the crowd. He chases the man and wounds him, but the chase ends when McCaleb suffers a heart attack. Two years later and now retired, McCaleb lives in a houseboat on the Long Beach bay. He receives a second chance at life with a heart transplant. He is approached by Graciella Rivers; her sister, Gloria, was murdered during a robbery and she asks him to solve the case. He discovers that the heart transplanted into him was Gloria's. He has nightmares of the robbery during which Gloria was murdered. McCaleb, against the advice of his physician, decides to find the real murderer with the help of houseboat neighbor Jasper "Buddy" Noone (Jeff Daniels) and local police detective Jaye Winston... "Blood Work" received mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes, saying it was "a routine, but competently made thriller marred by lethargic pacing." However, A. O. Scott of The New York Times wrote while it was similar to many Eastwood films, "there is something comforting in seeing this old warhorse trot gamely out of the gate for yet another run on familiar turf." (Via Wikipedia) "Blood Work" is hardly amongst Clint Eastwood´s better films if you ask me. I saw it when it came out but had forgotten about my opinion about it. It's a sloppy film, ridiculous at times, wobbly acting from all involved, unengaged setup, several silly and also strange scenes, Eastwood on autopilot, no feeling of authenticity in the film, Paul Rodriguez and Dylan Walsh cops being some sort of silly comic relief that doesn´t work at all and it's clear that Eastwood directed this film with his left hand and as fast as he could. Pass this one coming from a truly big fan of Clint Eastwood. Trivia: The film was not a box office success, grossing $31.8 million worldwide on a budget of $50 million. (Via Wikipedia)
Very good, with real heart.
Better than scores here reflect. Once Jeff Daniels is exposed his acting chops really shine. Not gonna win any awards but definitely worth watching.
Good entertainment. I like the plot of 'Blood Work'. I'm unsure if it would hold up if you went through with a fine-tooth comb, but it certainly gave me the required enjoyment levels. Clint Eastwood gives a sturdy performance, as do Jeff Daniels and Wanda De Jesus; elsewhere on the cast, neat to see Anjelica Huston and Rick Hoffman, Louis Litt himself, appear in smaller roles. It's not as unpredictable as it perhaps thinks it is, due to the casting more than anything, but I had a fun enough time with it.
A predation but fine film This Thriller is a okay movie but I would check it out again
If Eastwood has made worse movies, I just haven't seen them yet. It's painful when you can sense that even the actors find the movie that they're in boring. It somehow felt like it was made in the late 1980's. Only watch this if you feel the need to see it because Clint Eastwood's in it (like I did).
For the life of me, I can't help but be constantly entertained by Clint Eastwood, regardless of whether or not the film he's in severely lacks efficacy, energy or the occasional bout of grace. "Blood Work" never even comes close to bordering into the "bad" territory of the Eastwood oeuvre, but there are some glaring issues, namely the clunkiness of the narrative, which constantly stumbles over its own feet in its efforts to "be cool" with some of the plot's more sensitive elements. Whether it's with certain telling camera movements or even the way a particular word is annunciated in a line of dialogue, you definitely get the feeling that the movie thinks it's not signaling the importance of something in the plot. Though, it totally is and you're well the hell aware of it. Clint Eastwood, however, tugs this sucker along at a decent clip, what with his innate charm and charisma. And the narrative, while imperfect, contains enough momentum and intrigue to keep the audience at bay for most of the running time. Again, it's not even going to crack the top 20 Clint Eastwood movies for me, but it's mostly competently done.
With a twist you will see miles away, the film is only mildly entertaining.
Laughable junk with a harmonica-playing killer, grim romance, squinting Eastwood, absurd plotting, and a weary sense of "why bother?" scribbled all over this film.
Fans of Michael Connelly's book will applause to this adaptation of his book of the same title. It does capture the spirit of the book and the McCaleb's character his hellish journey. I was truly touched by the emotions McCaleb faces Â- saving his own life and the Gloria Rivers' heart, or catching the twisted villain who's on a murderous rampage. However, the twists are there, but the clues are so obvious and come too soon. I have no doubt it's easy for all to get the picture quickly and solve the crimeÂ... long before the movie ended. It's an enjoyable crime thriller that had made me yearn for more film adaptations of Michael Connelly's books.
A clever thriller from Clint Eastwood with good twists. I think it is actually one of his better films. Jeff Daniels was terrific as well in a unique role for him. (First and only viewing - 8/12/2018)
Great Eastwood thriller!
There are some genuinely interesting ideas and twists here, too bad they're drowned in messy, laughable storytelling and the pace of a snail.
Pretty bad movie. Despite a slew of talent both in front and behind the camera and an intriguing premise, the pacing is poorly handled and the twists end up being bland.
Not one of my favorites from Clint, but it's always nice to see him up to something. Barred down by slow pacing and an uneven script, Blood Work barely scrapes by. The film is more of a take it or leave it kind, but for me...I'll always be up for Clint touting a gun
