Brahms: The Boy II Reviews
(This contains spoilers for both “The Boy” and “Brahms: The Boy II”) I have never made a review on a movie before but this infuriated me so much I felt it deserves my two cents. The original “The Boy” is honestly up there in my favorite horror films, this movie however is subpar. In fact subpar is an understatement on how awful it is. The point of the original film was that the doll was NOT possessed and it was actually the son of the estate Brahms. The doll was named after Brahms, and the whole point of the doll’s existence is to replace the child Brahms. The sequel Takes the entire plot of the original and tosses it into a fire. The timelines do not match up and the origins don’t make a lick of sense. They basically took the setting of “The Boy” and turned it into Chucky. This movie just feels like a money grab. Not to mention the acting of the child (Jude) honestly wasn’t very good. I think everyone else was fine, especially the little girl I think she did wonderful for such a small roll. So in short this sequel is a disgrace and spits in the eye of the original, and I suggest all copies be burned.
Wasn't the worst film I've ever seen. It had a basic story. The third act was a little over the top and turned more supernatural/chucky-esque. Quite predictable. Acting was good.
If the first Boy movie barely floated, this sequel sinks to the depths.
If you have any respect for yourself you will avoid this one at all costs. You hate really all I have to say, I feel bad for myself I really do. .5/5 stars. The most boring horror movie ever.
The movie was kinda boring completely changing it from making you think the doll is possessed to it actually being possessed.
one of those creepy doll horror movies. kinda meh
Best of the series IMO
no brahms, horrible, 0/0
This horror film, by William Bell, does a great job of following the narrative from the first movie. At first, I did not know how the first scene in the film was going to tie into the story line of Brahms the doll, but the directors and writers did a great job of tying in both stories together to create a great horror story to continue from the first movie. I watched "The Boy" for the first time in 2017 and was not expecting a sequel to come out based on the ending of that movie. But now I stand corrected because the authors did a great job of keeping the story line living on and creating even more interest with what had happened in the first movie plot. I was very enticed the whole movie and had confusion of what was occurring because of the ending in the first. I kept thinking of how these mysterious activities were happening during the entire movie. Then just like that, the whole scene of what was going on became so evident to my eye and I knew how this was continuing without the actual psycho in the walls. The actual presence that controlled the system since the early, early ages was not seen to be possible the whole first and second movie. I believe this horror movie did a great job of continuing more of a suspicion rather than apparent, visual actions occurring to keep the viewers eye on all of the scenes. I rate this move three and a half stars because it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, but it was not as scary as the first one in my opinion. I was expecting more violence and aggravation throughout the movie but there were only a couple of moments that showed these activities. I feel as if there were more possible scenarios within the movie that more action could have happened. I do recommend watching this movie to my peers because it does do a great job of living on the horrendous story of Brahms.
As if the first wasn't bad enough, here comes an even more ridiculous sequel. If only there were a zero stars option. Way too many sequels of everything, done horribly wrong, but that's Hollywood.
This is a lazy sequel.!!!!!
WHERE IS MY POOKIE BEAR BRAHMS????!!!!!!
When I was 10 years old, I ate an entire sheet of notebook paper on a dare. Watching this terrible sequel evoked a similar sensation. It doesn't help that the creators of this movie have clearly never seen the first one. They completely unraveled the lore that made the franchise interesting in the first place. And even though the first film is far from my favorite, I still felt offended on its behalf.
What I liked most about the first one, they throw it away here. It's not so bad, I liked the leading family, but it's not even close to the original.
Bland, mediocre, worst sequel.
I kinda liked the first part. However the second part managed to wipe out even the last bit of hope for joy with this franchise. (I remember a specific scene in the last quarter... that I'd rather not remember.) No third film needed.
dull story, very forgettable
I have mix feeling about this movie because its a sequel that recons the first movie story, but adds to it as well. If a sequel had to be made this is best version that could possibly come out of its story.
SERIOUSLY, DOES ANYONE CARE ABOUT SPOILERS HERE? Rule number one of a sequel: you need to respect the rules stipulated in the previous film(s). The franchise "The Boy" is all about following rules, and it's at least hypocritical that this universe doesn't respect its own. Brahms went from a normal porcelain doll to some kind of entity who's been adored for generations (in other words, his essence was completely destroyed), with pictures made with someone with less experience than me on Photoshop. The introduction is good, I must admit, but the cast, again, is not well (I have to admit I liked Joseph, the guard/gardener made by Ralph Ineson), especially Katie Holmes, who seems apathetic. And when Brahms finally appears on screen, firstly, I couldn't help but laugh, as I remembered the comedic premise of the first movie, and, secondly, Stacey Menear (the screenwriter, who also wrote the first film) and William Brent Bell (the director, who also directed the first film) try to transform Brahms into everything but Brahms. The writing is so lazy that it tries to copy all horror films imaginable. Some notable examples are "The Shining" ("come play with us"), "Annabelle", and the whole "Conjuring" franchise in general. The premise of this film is almost the same as the first "The Conjuring", but in the view of the family who ask for help for the Warrens. Another thing: there's a scene where Jude is playing with his cousins, and Will starts to bully him. They start to fight for Sophie's bobble hat, and it's for the spectator to think that Brahms made Jude push Will into a wooden stake, but the editing makes clear that this was an accident. I mean, when was the key moment to show how Brahms interferes negatively in Jude's life, transforming him into an assassin, the film fails to make the spectator believe that the doll actually did it. And what in the hell was that ending? Come on, movie! I must admit I liked the second movie more than the first (or disliked the second movie less than the first), but it's not a good sequel. It could be good if it followed the example of "Annabelle: Creation", the only creepy doll film that worked for me in my whole life.
