Maxwell Rabb Chicago Reader Despite all the repeated gags and such, it’s charming—and more emotionally vulnerable than many of its counterparts. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It's scrappy. It plays like a series of sketches and some of them work better than others... [but] it settles down into something which is actually about grief. Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) What you have is a mature film that captures all the ups-and-downs of life, and all the truths we can hold at the same time. Bridget can quietly sit with her pain and have fun sexy times with a younger lover. Rated: 4/5 Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A rather blah film. Rated: C+ Apr 16, 2025 Full Review David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment It is rare that a film so far into a franchise still manages to have audiences feeling for characters let alone surprising them with events. But this is what happens here with a film that is arguably the best in the franchise. Rated: 4/5 Mar 13, 2025 Full Review Natasha Alvar Hallmarkies Podcast If this is the last film in the Bridget Jones franchise, it's a very nice send-off for Bridget. Michael S Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is undeniably sentimental and nostalgic, banking on the feelings the audience has built up for these characters over the years.  That said, the movie is very funny and surprisingly heartfelt.  With this fourth entry, the Bridget Jones comedy franchise has grown beyond its romantic comedy origins into an ongoing story that marks the passage of time.  Like Bridget, this movie occasionally wobbles but it comes out on top in the end, smiling.  Recommended. detroitcineaste Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Julia R Im not sure if I was watching a different film compared to the other reviews ... but I thought this was simply awful... cliched and purile storyline, excrutiately painful acting (though the script didn't help). Renee Zellweger with a very odd expression/pursed-lips throughout the entire film which very soon became annoying. Whereas we could do with an uplifting movie with events such as they are in the world right now... this movie only made me depressed to think how low standards have fallen.... Especially sorry to see that the (usually) fabulous Chiwetel Ejiofor and Emma Thompson loaned their talent to the endeavour but alas even they couldn't save it... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review Pedro C Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2025) is a heartfelt, bittersweet finale to the iconic rom-com series. Renée Zellweger shines as a widowed Bridget, navigating grief, single motherhood, and modern dating with her signature charm. The film balances humor and emotional depth, with Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver stealing scenes. While new love interests (Leo Woodall, Chiwetel Ejiofor) lack the spark of past romances, the story’s focus on healing and growth resonates. A fitting, if somber, send-off for a beloved character.
