Broken English Reviews
Ok, This is a good movie and worth keeping in your collection. There were so many elements to Nora that I saw in myself, it was nice to know what you are isn't the only thing when it often seems so. She was conflicted though which was irritating, her fawning over Guy when she bumped into him while with Julien was SO something that happens, she acted like Julien wasn't even there and it enraged me, haha. She did to him in that scene what other men had done to her, which was a turnoff to liking her, for me. She redeemed herself though through the course of the movie and the ending it awesome. Great story and well acted and it's nice to have a relationship movie that feels 'Normal' and not contrived or a bunch of random tropes smashed together.
One of my favorite romantic comedies of all time. I only recently discovered it. A true time capsule for anyone who lived through the 90s yet timeless. Cannot recommend enough.
I loved this movie when I first saw it soon after its release back when I was in my 30s. I really related to Nora's neuroses, even though mine weren't nearly as obvious as hers. I just watched it again in my 40s and all I can think of is that no gorgeous and seemingly sane man like that would stick around for that amount of crazy. But maybe I dont look like Parker Posey. Still like the movie, just seeing it through very different eyes a decade or so later. Wonder what HIS story is to make him stick around.
I feel that this movie could have been better without the clunky dialogue. The performances in themselves were fantastic and the pace was good, but the dialogue has much to be desired.
One of the greatest movies made about being alone and the hardship of finding someone to be with. It totally reflects a lot of my experience This would have gotten five stars had it not been for the happy ending that HOLLYWOOD probably made her make.
If you're female you will very likely completely understand and love this movie and feel great sympathy for the main character, if your a man (it seems) you won't quite understand it so completely but you'll probably quite like it - my husband liked it, but I loved it! where are all Zoe Cassavetes other movies??
I kept thinking why is an attractive woman worried about what others think. Also hoping into bed with a person after just been meeting how do you think that will build a lasting comittment with thm?
I ended up really liking this film. The actress, Parker Posey, is great. You really get invested into her character. It's a great blend of romance, comedy, and drama. For Zoe R. Cassavetes's first film, it's a great one.
Pretty good! I thought this is a very lovely story! Makes you want to fall in love, specially if you're in your 30s! :-)
i love Parker Posey so this was a treat. I liked it more when it moved across the water to France. This is slow off beat and utterly quirky
When you are ready to accept yourself and let yourself find the happiness inside you then the magic will guide you to new paths. Not extremely thought-provoking,nor extremely sweet and not even as beautiful as it should have been having in mind it's Paris we're talking about! The cinematography didn't make a good use of the surroundings and that really pissed me off.The acting was really good, though I had some minor problems with it.It managed to deliver the atmosphere of the movie, but all things consider this was not more than a nice movie. PS:Melvil Poupaud brought joy to my eyes as I know him from Dolan's "Laurence Anyways" which was a movie I adored!
Interesting film. The word great doesn't come to mind but there is definitely something special about this movie. It's sweet and sad and yes most likely a film only girls will end up seeing but its a nice hour and half break from the world.
Parker Posey is always a treat, but despite some great character moments this film was a little flat for me. Worth a watch though.
There's something about Parker Posey and Melvil Poudpaud that propels this movie past the usual Romantic comedy genre.
Not a terrible love story. Much better than any "romance" film being released for most audiences these days.
encouraging movie :) love the line which French gentleman says " first of all you must find love and happiness in yourself "
