Brooklyn Rules Reviews
Five stars because 1. They made Freddie Prinze Jr look and sound handsome with that kick ass Brooklyn accent. 2. That's a very good part for Scott Caan son of James Caan. 3. Jerry Ferrara did a good job as the fat and sensitive guy. 4. Alec Baldwin did good as the tough boss of Brooklyn. And 5. Mena Suvari did good as psych expert Ellen and the girlfriend of Freddie's character as Michael turner. But I still don't understand why all the other characters have last names but Mena suvari's character doesn't.
I enjoyed this film as it captured my attention and I was able to take in and understand most of what was going on. A good film overall
Terrible. Painfully bad. A poor Bronx Tale ripoff - The story is weak, the acting is bad. None of the actors have the proper accent. Did anyone do any research for this movie?
Essentially a watered-down, 1980s-set "A Bronx Tale." Undone by an overly-familiar narrative and some bad casting choices. Alec Baldwin and Scott Caan are two bright spots. Freddie Prinze Jr. narrating the film with a Brooklyn accent? Not so much.
Not sure why, but I liked this. Scott Caan as a tough guy, reminded me of his father in another mafia story decades earlier :) And Alec Baldwin, bold and rude, yet entertaining.
good mafia movie. i liked it. really like the story plot of how real friends stick together nd they'll do nethin nd i mean nethin for eachother. even killin sumone..
Sure, we've seen this movie before. But that doesn't mean it's not bad. This movie got zero attention when it debuted and still hasn't received much attention. And that's a shame, a solid script and good performances make this story of friendship that much better as they deal with the growing threat of an all out mob war in Brooklyn during the 80s. For fans of Goodfellas, here's one for you. Is it at that caliber? Goodness no. But none the less, a good film to watch.
This film tried a little too hard to be a cheap similar film to ?A Bronx Tale?, but didn?t quite live up to it in the way of casting, storyline or dialogue.
As 3 buddies from Brooklyn reach adulthood, they remain close even as one is directed toward law school, another aspires to be a postal clerk, and the third gets involved in the mob. The story is set in 1985 when outside a steakhouse John Gotti's men gunned down Gambino family boss Paul Castellano. A mob war ensues which impacts the three friends' lives in unexpected ways. Strong performances from the actors, a steady narrative flow, and a credible sense of the 1980's make this film a pleasure to watch.
Another day, another gangster movie. Saying that however, this movie was quite good, vene though I have to admit in a few weeks times I won't even remember it, just that I have watched it. There are soooo many movies with a similar storyline, that this just feels like a re-run of something you have already watched.
