Critics Consensus

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget offers more of the easy laughs and eye-catching animation that fans of the original enjoyed, although there's a general feeling of diminishing returns.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s pleasingly daft, very British and not exactly memorable. Dec 29, 2023 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times There are some fine new villains. The voice work rumbles with buttered-crumpet charm. Middle-ranking Aardman is better than almost anyone else on top form. Rated: 3/5 Dec 23, 2023 Full Review Jonathan Romney Financial Times Briskly cheerful, but lacking the sharp deadpan wit that made Aardman famous, this episode is a warmed-over broiler that offers only paltry pleasures. Rated: 2/5 Dec 18, 2023 Full Review Francesca Steele iNews.co.uk The stakes are both enjoyably high and simultaneously very silly, and it keeps the film in that same sweet spot that made the first one so watchable for children and adults alike. Rated: 3/5 Dec 11, 2024 Full Review William Stottor Loud and Clear Reviews Our favourite chicken revolutionary returns in Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget for another life or death fight against evil, meat-hungry humans. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 3, 2024 Full Review Joe George Wealth of Geeks Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget ... feels like a referendum on children's animation, a call for well-crafted kids' movies built on compelling characters, smart themes, and actual jokes instead of cynical, synergistic products. St M Quite strangely I found this film more stressful to watch than endearingly fun. There is a very good storyline here especially the first 1/2 with amusing sequences, but feeling longer than its running time, there are too many jumbled & silly plot twists the second 1/2 to find ultimately satisfying. Ends up in a kind of mechanical-ish mishmash of loud chaos with too much happenstance to develop any needed hero-imagery of the main characters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Richard W This movie should not have the Aardman name attached to it. It's like they sold the rights to the Chicken Run names and had an AI write a script to fill the time. It's not even entirely claymation. I honestly hope that Aardman got to pay some bills with this and that their A team gets to work on more cool stuff for the future. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/25 Full Review Kyle M While the first film stemmed off of the “Wallace & Gromit” popularity as a renowned classic and timely testament, this two-decade follow-up not only recapture the charming delight that flowed previously but also surpasses with a sweeter heart tendered by delicately rejuvenated form and fine hilarity, gesturing as a fun invitation for families ranging grown nostalgia seekers and equally curious sprouts. (B+) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Cody H Chicken Run was a surprise to the eye, this sequel isn’t. It is entertaining in a bit, but it feels rushed and unnecessary. The storyline doesn’t really know where to go. The inside of the chicken factory feels like borrowed from Squid Game. The plot is predictable. But for a couch bench session in the evening for the smaller ones, I guess it can do. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Adri S pfff, una película un poco del montón. Eso sí, la animación es increíble. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Tijs v It is a good easy to watch movie, granted that it is for kids, this is not a bad thing. Just sit back and enjoy the british chickens. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
