Critics Consensus

Disturbing and thought-provoking, A Clockwork Orange is a cold, dystopian nightmare with a very dark sense of humor.

Pauline Kael The New Yorker I can’t accept that Kubrick is merely reflecting this post-assassinations, post-Manson mood; I think he’s catering to it. I think he wants to dig it. Sep 12, 2023 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review A stone-cold classic, no getting around the fact... Sep 21, 2021 Full Review Charles Champlin Los Angeles Times I'm afraid I found A Clockwork Orange brilliant but disappointing, its moments of power offset by an overwrought stridency and its message overbalanced by the medium. Dec 21, 2020 Full Review Hayley Croke Loud and Clear Reviews Kubrick creates a harsh and unforgiving picture of society in this film, a society that thinks in black and white refusing to entertain color. The quick and easy fix is seemingly the only one worth indulging in. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 20, 2024 Full Review Paul Klein FILMHOUNDS Magazine Kubrick, ever the provocateur, would probably enjoy its enduring legacy, and recoil at the same time. Rated: 5/5 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Rory Doherty InSession Film The rare Kubrick film that feels like a misfire, and although the impeccable filmmaking techniques are still admirable, it’ll be tough appreciating the full effect of the shocking content when you’re checking your watch every five minutes. Alexsander F All my passion for Beethoven's work is thanks to this great film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Tim F good movie one of a kind. Its poetic. it was just missing one monumental and deep scene wich makes you pause for a view minuts becauce it is so sevear to be verry good. to be fair i did not have acces to the uncut version Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Eddie N I watched this movie as it is one of the classics, or so people say. I don't get the appeal, the movie starts off by showing off a gang of goons and their sinister love for crime. The movie in its self is just violent for the sake of being violent there is no plot, it's almost as if it's trying to be as edgy as possible. We then see the main character get caught and be sent to what is believed to be a rehab center where he goes through different psychological assessments. At the end of the movie we come to find out that in reality the whole program is a failure and he won't ever find the help he needs. The story and plot twist is boring, further more you can't even relate or feel sad for him, he deserves it. The whole movie is very slow paced and boring and what happens on screen most of the time has little to do with the main plot, which isn't even good to begin with. I understand why maybe when it came out it was kind of a big deal but tbh it's boring, underwhelming, most of the action is irrelevant and the plot twist isn't even shocking. To add onto it they didn't even try to make you sympathize with him, even if you are somehow shocked by the most basic of plot twists there no feeling bad for him. Bad, boring and quite frankly overrated. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/25 Full Review Emma F This movie presents a dark and twisted portrayal of human nature, delving into themes of violence, social conditioning, and the sinister aspects of human behavior. It stands as a timeless classic that continues to ignite discussions about the influence of violence in media. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/19/25 Full Review Jorge V Una pregunta el era el violento o era el mundo Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Andrés B A Kubric's classic, you can inmediatley notice its "kubrickness" the plot magnificent, dark, odd but very entretaining, absolute masterpiece.
