Cold Creek Manor Reviews
"Cold Creek Manor" is an "okay" murder-esque horror movie. TBH, I wasn't scared throughout, only slightly suspensed in the beginning, trying to figure out the lore. But, once the second half kicked in, I was getting bored and waiting for it to end. I was interested in the mystery at first, when we are first introduced to a suspect and a couple of minor hijinks. However, when it turned into an investigatory drama halfway through, the film became lackluster and predictable. The supporting characters making up the small town formed the world to feel more real, and I cared somewhat about our main family. The ending sequence though, which should be the climatic battle, felt cheesy. Some of the music score was somewhat laughable. If you just want alright horror movie fodder and are trying not to be scared (as my tolerance is already quite low), you can check it out, but it can get tedious and you may be checking your watch quite a bit.
2003's 'Cold Creek Manor' was a film I'd never seen the first time around so I was intrigued to watch it now it was on Disney+. SYNOPSIS: 'A family relocates from the city to a dilapidated house in the country that was once a grand estate. As they begin renovations, they discover their new home harbors a secret and may not be completely free of its former inhabitant.' What I thought was going to be a standard, by the numbers, supernatural horror film actually became something more real and a decent murder mystery. Director Figgis relies heavily on Quaid's lead performance to carry the film through. Stone, as his wife, seems uninterested throughout and really hams it up, whilst it appears Stewart was an awful actress even as a teen. Depending on your acceptance of these Hollywood B movies it'll either be easy to watch or difficult to accept this unabashedly absurd story. It's 'Hand that Rocks the Cradle' meets 'Fatal Attraction' but without the pazazz. 6/10
The scariest thing about this film is the writing, avoid.
Formulaic drivel. I'm surprised to see Dennis Quaid and Sharon Stone in a thing of such low values. "Plot" - at no point does any character in this make other than an idiotic choice when a sensible one is there just begging to be chosen. It's writing of the very lowest quality, and when coupled with directing and a story line straight from Fright Night, the result is a brew of such low quality that it angers me to have found it on the Disney channel. If you're into low grade trash movies, this one's right up your street.
Watched it for an hour and switched it off, the best they could do to make it scary was snakes. Very boring, poor acting. Only good if you want to watch it to help you fall asleep.
Considering the great cast, this is a movie full of tropes and clichés and if ( like me ) you love Horror / Thrillers, you will be disappointed sadly.
Completely clueless movie, it didn't bring anything new, Sharon Stone in another dramatic performance while Juliette Lewis is more erased than an ex message in the movie, the last 12 minutes of the movie gave me the strength to keep watching, a boring mess.
Positive reviews here are only by those that are awed by Sharon Stone or Dennis Quaid. They pretty much suck in this predictable mess unlike in other movies.
Surprisingly its not a supernatural thriller and its a straightforward simple and I stress to say this word boring movie.
The critics unanimously hate this movie. I actually found it amusing. Yes, it's rife with "urban family moves to a spooky house in the country" cliches. But I felt throughout that this movie knows that it's silly. There are bits of wry humor, and Stephen Dorff as the bad guy can't possibly be taken seriously. He's more of a plot device than anything else. Denns Quaid and Sharon Stone seem to be playing along with the joke. I place this one firmly in the "good bad movie category." You'll smirk at it a lot, but that's kind of fun sometimes.
A movie that is serious but ridiculous This Thriller is a so bad it's good movie and a guilty pleasure for how silly it is
I haven't finished watching it. I don't think I can. If the sound of smacking drives you insane this movie will do it. I want to finish the movie out of curiosity, but I swear I can not stand the disgusting noises they put in this movie. I would rather blow the dang tv up than listen to that!
The potential was there for this to be a decent thriller, but it just seems to crumble apart. The music thinks the movie is much more suspenseful than it is.
Predictable film you have seen a million times but it is atmospheric and the cast is really good.
Yes, very much enjoyed both Sharon Stone and Dennis Quaid in this. For me, I loved the tension between Dorf and Stone's characters. I loved how guilty the family felt for "stealing" this lovely home and grounds and I felt it played very true to life with all the conflicts. No one plays a white trash loud mouth like Juliette Lewis can, and overall I enjoyed this movie very much.
As usual I dont believe the critics gave this movie due credit. I actually though it was pretty good! Certainly better than what the critics rate it!
