Crocodile Dundee II Reviews
This movie has a more darker theme than the original. There are not as many funny moments in this film as it did in the first one. Accept the part with the Japanese tourists on the subway. There's definitely more action in this movie. They're not as many snappy one liners either. The chemistry between Mick and Sue is undeniable. The storyline is not bad & is easy to follow. The script is interesting enough to keep your attention. This film is definitely more of an action film than a comedy. There are moments of hilarity. It's not bad for a sequel. It's watchable. I will give it one thing though it has an imaginative storyline. Especially towards the end of the movie.
Nothing more than an embarrassing rehash. Wasted talent, poor humour.
The first one was fun but this bomb should never have been made. This was one reason why the short lived infatuation with things Australian died.
Crocodile Dundee came out of nowhere with the first movie and surprised audiences all over the world. When Crocodile Dundee II came out, viewers knew what to expect and what we got wasn’t quite as good. This is still an entertaining movie, especially in the second half when they arrive in Australia. But this feels more like an action/adventure film than a comedy, which is a little disappointing. Paul Hogan is still very likeable as Mick Dundee, though, and it’s his subdued charisma that really props up this sequel. Maybe it’s just because I used to watch it as a kid, but I like Crocodile Dundee II.
So, while this ISN'T a remake, it's a sequel, this is a prime example of Hollywood not understanding a character or property. Where the first movie is more or less a rom com, about a neglected, rejected fish-out-of-water character, the sequel finds its titular character taking on the role of action star (a fact addressed in the third movie during a meta-analysis of Hollywood and the need to change character motivations). Overall, this movie feels wildly out of place, especially during the first half, that feels uninspired, forced and poorly conceived. It isn't until the second half of the movie, when it returns to what made the first movie so great, that the sequel actually has any entertainment value.
This one is my favorite out of the 3 Crocodile Dundee movies. However, I do like them all. I'm still watching and enjoying this movie! They're just fun, nostalgic movies that I have enjoyed watching with friends and family on many occasions. Also, got the DVD! 😀
Oddly more entertaining from the first time I saw it.. I believe I saw it in the theater? CDII takes up where the 1st one left off, Mick (Dundee) and his lady are living the good life in NY, when an ex-bf of her's gets assassinated because of photos he took of his killers doing a drug deal, they begin looking for the film that has those pictures.. Well wouldnt you know it, those pics were mailed to NYC! So CD and GF need to hide out and they go back to Australia. Story up to this point is fun, but when it gets to Australia, it definitely slows down a lot of notches when CD takes on the drug lords in the outback. It just seemed a little TOO slow and methodical.
Good sequel and a fun movie
This sequel is the same as many other film sequels in terms of featuring a rather weak plot and relying on the same aspects of the first film to maintain the viewers interest and provide the comedy. I did think it was reasonably amusing and an easy watch to start with but the plot became really quite weak certainly mid way through, although I can't say it was exactly unwatchable but I certainly felt quite distracted and some scenes made me cringe. I wasn't entirely comfortable with the Australian stereotypes present, especially the depiction of the aborigines, which seemed particularly un-PC by modern day standards. Still, there were some amusing moments, slapstick type moments with the titular character in New York, accidentally becoming involved in other peoples situations, to put it one way. There is some reasonable choreography present and its a reasonably alright watch for the first half but the 2nd half lets it down. Overall, I'm not greatly impressed but I suppose it could be worse. I wouldn't especially recommend it as such, no.
Just as good as the first movie and this is a great sequel which has Dundee defend the love of his wife from some Colombian drug dealers in both New York and Australia.
It's better than the original, but that's not saying much. At least we now have real (if stereotypical) villains, and Dundee is put through his paces this time. Story: Ex-husband of Kozlowski contacts his former wife from Colombia to tell her about his investigation into drug dealers there. Said dealers find him, kill him, then go to New York after Kozlowski. They first kidnap her, but Dundee finds a clever way to rescue her by having a crowd follow him into the dealers' lair. Dundee and his love then have to flee to Australia-and of course the drug dealers follow. Unlike in the original, there is cleverness and tension, and Dundee's new foes are much harder prey than the bullies in the first movie. Still, it's really only recommended if you cared for the original movie.
I love this movie! This was the movie I would beg my mom to let me watch when I was pre-teen. Dundee is such a likeable character. The chemistry he has with Sue and the other characters feels genuine. If you liked the first one, then you'll like this one to - or maybe not, for the life of me I cannot understand the negativity surrounding this movie.
Crocodile Dundee is a rehash of most of the originals jokes, but unlike the original, there was actually some drama and suspense which made it more engaging. Through the conflict, you could also see the leads' good chemistry. It's not great, it could have been 20 minutes shorter, and there were some not well thought out plot points, but I think I liked it better than the original. My favourite scenes were when Mick's aboriginal friends who come to help.
Pointless sequel to a forgettable original.
Another Continued Aussie Classic! Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee in the action with "Heavy Dudes' who have kidnapped his woman. Gun fire, gangs, drugs and a lot ta games - Mick's Words. Aussie laughs in the Big Apple.
Really enjoyable fun sequel, of course not as original and groundbreaking as the original but then again what sequel is. Everyone is good in this movie, just wish the Australia was a little longer, basically the same way I felt about the first one, just wish they had a few more scenes.
The decisions the filmmakers made for this movie were very odd - they put a very obvious movie-ending climax right in the middle of the movie and tacked on a very disappointing back half. Putting him back in his hometown to do hijinks was a good idea; just not after the rescue mission. The only noticeable music came when they seemed to impersonate the Shaft theme for a couple minutes. The movie is saved mostly by Hogan just being very enigmatic.
Actually An Underrated Sequel!!!!!!!!!!!
I suppose I'm one of those outliers here that like the sequel better than the original. I actually like the Schwarzenegger-fights-the-terrorists convention flipped here into a more congenial vein. Watching it again last night, it is a little bit slow, some things could have been cut out to improve the pacing, and it's also a bit dated, but I still found it as entertaining as it was 30 years ago.
