Dealt Reviews

Aug 12, 2023

3 & 1/4 stars. Two levels in this flick. The amazing slight of hand and the late term growth of a blind man.

'Dealt' makes a big reveal early, but the charisma of Richard Turner, a world renowned card mechanic, makes this worthy of a watch. Whether you're a fan of documentary films, or poker or magic, there's something for you, which is a fun central figure and a fantastic story. Illusion is something that captivates the mind and this movie captivates the soul. Hubby: 9.2/Wife: 7.9 Average: 8.6/10

A fantastic biography of the legend Richard Turner. This man is amazing. He's possibly the best card trickster ever (with all due respect to Dai Vernon). He also got a black belt when he was visually handicapped. His feats are amazing and he's such an inspirational figure. Highly recommend this to anyone, especially gamblers and people who love cards.

So what's your sad excuse for not being better?

This is truly a great & inspirational film. I highly recommend it even if you just want to be amazed by how good of a card magician/mechanic Richard Turner is.

Little bit of a strange movie...Richard honestly seems like a bit of a jerk...and the movie features some really strange choices like including that he was mad the newspaper called him "blind" when he got his black belt in karate, which would be valid if he was George Clooney or somebody newsworthy but "magician gets black belt" just isn't something that would ever be covered in a sports section if it wasn't maybe somebody like Penn or Teller...so you come away thinking "man, what an ego" rather than "did something amazing with severe limitation". Also he seems really hard on his kid/wife and so it's kinda a portrait of an OCD guy who just happens to be the world's best at something.

3/2/18 Netflix DVD An interesting story about a man who has overcome his blindness with perseverance along with a strong family. His devotion to his craft as well as every challenge he faces is impressive. A little disappointed that the film focused almost entirely on his blindness and not very much on his incredible card mechanic skills. Would have liked to see more of his upclose card tricks.

Great movie about a great guy.

Richard Turner is the world's best card mechanic. He doesn't do card tricks, slight of hand or use altered card decks. But what he does is so amazing, it's hard to believe. Even the people in Las Vegas who specialize in catching card cheats say Turner is unrivaled in the world of card mechanics. This is his story, and he's blind which takes what he does beyond top professional to the amazing genius level. Most of the movie is spent discussing his life and how he got to where he is, so don't expect a lot of card tricks. He doesn't do tricks. He simply manipulates the cards in ways that defy all logic. Enjoy his story for what it is, and don't be disappointed in not seeing a lot "magic" tricks. However, what you will see is simply mind blowing. For an $8 ticket, you'll get $8 worth of entertainment.

What a great documentary. One of the most amazing individuals I have seen and this movie provides some great background on what made Richard the man he is today. Luke Korem directed a very professional, high quality film that does his subject justice.

Saw Richard on Fool-Us. i was amazed.i know he hates to be referred to as blind, but he is without sight which makes what he does all that more impressive. the movie deals more with blindness and less about his method. that's a good thing.showing us sighted people the day to day things we take for granted. his martial art skills are nearly as impressive as his card skills. without hesitation i'd recommend this movie. his card skills are 2nd to none.do yourself a favor and rent, srtream, buy or download
