What to Know

Critics Consensus

Tony Scott tries to combine action, science fiction, romance, and explosions into one movie, but the time travel conceit might be too preposterous and the action falls apart under scrutiny.

Brian Tallerico UGO It's a hard movie to hate, just one that's far too easy to forget. Mar 24, 2007 Full Review Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Rated: 1/6 Feb 3, 2007 Full Review David Jenkins Time Out Take away a couple of neatly staged action sequences and you're left with a callously measured slab of US jingoism that deals with the most horrific human tragedies in the most lunk-headed and insulting way possible. Dec 30, 2006 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins If one can get past the dubious technical details of the setup, the competent acting should take care of the rest of the entertainment. Rated: 7/10 Nov 21, 2020 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) Sounds a bit dodgy, huh? Not when an in-form Denzel Washington is involved. He's the glue that keeps this absurdly compelling thriller together as it mashes up the present and the past to intoxicating effect. Rated: 4/5 Sep 11, 2020 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ Although a certain amount of disbelief suspension is a necessity, the script tries exceptionally hard, and succeeds, in building a credible case. Forrest J This is the type of movie critics will hate but every casual viewer finds interesting and entertaining. The acting is solid. No need to explain why this methods of science are not possible… just take it for what it is and enjoy it. It’s a pretty fun movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Amy H I absolutely loved it. Fantastic tribute to New Orleans too Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review Robertas V If you are serious about your life and seeking to learn something from movies - this is not a movie to watch. I can't believe good actor Denzel Washington signed for that. This is fiction, miraculous , magical movie with a lot of nonsense points. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/07/25 Full Review Paul S The plot was really confusing and didn't make sense at times, but overall, it was really fun to watch and try to figure out. I definitely recommend it for sci-fi and crime fans! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Audience Member This film IV enjoyed no Matt whot the critics' think just hope he carrys on making such good films Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/03/25 Full Review Ralph R *Déjà Vu* is a compelling blend of science fiction and action, showcasing Denzel Washington's exceptional talent. His portrayal of ATF agent Doug Carlin is both engaging and nuanced, bringing depth to the character. The film's production is noteworthy, with director Tony Scott utilizing advanced visual effects to create a seamless narrative that explores complex themes of time and memory. The cinematography by Paul Cameron effectively captures the vibrant essence of New Orleans, adding a rich backdrop to the unfolding mystery. Washington's subtle humor, particularly the quip about the "seven dwarves," adds a light touch to the intense storyline. Jim Caviezel delivers a strong performance as the antagonist, contributing to the film's tension and depth.
