Den of Thieves Reviews
A very well-written crime thriller that keeps the action to the fore but doesn't forget how important an intense a plot is as well. Butler is amazing in a role that he was born to play.

It's one thing for the bad guys to shoot one another, but when cops place dozens of innocent people in the middle of an automatic gun battle it feels gratuitous even for a movie like this.

The lesson is simple, ladies and gents. Don't judge a book or movie by its cover. There could be a fun toy waiting in that gift you didn't care to unwrap.

The complete lack of likeable characters is a problem for a heist movie - in this struggle between violent criminals and corrupt cops, we don't particularly care who wins.

The sprawling heist film plays like a bargain bin version of Michael Mann's 1995 classic "Heat." Only more macho. Which is impressive, given "Heat" is already jacked up on testosterone and fragile male egos.

Den of Thieves works by keeping it's feet firmly grounded and rarely taking shortcuts.

The acting is good to strong and the heist parts are fun to watch with some truly tense moments, but they are too few and far in-between to make this an exciting or fun to watch film.

[A] solid, violent, unstoppably entertaining film.

Problem number one is the script...problem number two is the punishing length of the film at two hours and twenty minutes.

A good direction, some remarkable interpretations and a story that flows. [Full Review in Spanish]

Den of Thieves is confoundingly familiar from structure to "gritty" character designs.

If anyone leaves the theater happy at the end, it's only because they're so grateful it's all finally over.

As the movie unfolds in the second half, it continues to surprise you at every turn.

Incoherent plotting and crime-caper clichés aside, this is a surprisingly refreshing take on the genre, and one that surely won't disappoint any die-hard Gerard Butler fans.

This movie just isn't good. The performances are all over the map, the central plot and action make no sense and there are huge chunks of screen time spent completely unnecessarily.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 8, 2019
At an overstuffed 140 minutes, it far overstays its welcome, with a plot that insults the audience's intelligence at every turn, and some of the most egregious examples of toxic masculinity I've ever seen in a modern movie.

Den of Thieves is a entertaining, if rocky entry in the heist genre, even if it is an homage to Michael Mann's Heat. But the overlong running time and the awful twist ending bring it down to the point that the film is a rental at best.

Before you dismiss this as another 'cop gone bad' or 'guns blazing action flick,' you may want to hang on to your seat because this is an intense and gripping heist movie.

A heist movie that's breathtakingly silly while maintaining an impressively serious level of self-belief, this is a disarmingly entertaining ride. There's no one called Den, though, which is a missed opportunity.

I had high hopes going into this film but due to the lack of action and poor character development, I left disappointed.
