Story was too long, a lot could have been deleted and it was a very confusing story. I would not recommend this to anyone.

It is tedious but deep. Beautifully filmed.

A masterpiece with amazing screenplay and beautiful cinematography. A touching story of love, loss and overcoming tragedy. Probably the best film to come out in the last year. The duration will likely test the patience of the casual moviegoer, but cinephiles are in for a treat.

Too drawn out. Payoff not enough. And subtitles were cut off (only saw top half of words) on the bottom. A challenging 3 hours!

It was loooong. Unnecessarily long. Dont go to see this if youre tired.

This is a mesmerizing, beautiful unsentimental film. The best film of 2022: well-written, excellently acted, spectacularly photographed, and the pace - the slow pace - enchants.

Fantastic movie. Gentle, deep and thorough. Typical Haruki Murakami. Watched it twice to make sure I detangled all the hidden messages.

so poetic ! such beautiful story-telling ! every aspect of production became a character. costumes, hair/make-up unnoticeable due to unobtrusive and subtle addition to this piece. although not a dynamic picture, it winds & twists unexpectedly in the way a walking path in the mountains might. the acting, although quiet and understated, is superb in control, story-telling, honesty, and emotion without drama. the humility and stoicism of japanese culture is the strongest element throughout, demonstrated seamlessly by Nishijima & Miura. it is a unique piece for those who are open to the art of movie-making, as opposed to typical american block-busters.

For the first time in years, Japan finally produced a film nominated for the Oscars. This film did something that Nomadland and Minari failed to do, and that was to create the hook. For every scene, it kept the viewers guessing and wanting more answers. Amazing performance and detailed story telling. 3 hours was worth every second. It didn’t feel rushed, every decision made in this film was a form of art. I was so immersed in these characters I forgot I was watching a movie. This film is not for viewers that can’t watch slow paced films. It will seem slow, but I enjoyed every second of it. My favorite film in the past 2 years. Definitely hope it wins best picture at the Oscars. 10 out of 10 for me. ✨👏

A thought-provoking slow paced movie with wonderful actors. It will haunt me for some time, but in a good way!

Layered, subtle deep and beautifully crafted. Slow but necessary build of characters that allows one to get to know them more intimately.

It means well and is basically an intriguing story but it is as long and bleak as a Siberian winter. Could have easily been 2 hours. Acting is hit and miss. Best pic? No.
