Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News This peppy world premiere is guaranteed to boost your spirits. Jun 27, 2024 Full Review Alejandra Martinez Austin Chronicle Egghead & Twinkie is a sweet and engaging movie. It’s not afraid to wear its heart on its sleeve and offer a pretty wholesome take on the queer coming-of-age genre. Oct 30, 2023 Full Review Andrea Thompson Chicago Reader True to the spirit of its intended audience, there's hilarity, shattering realizations, and plenty of manga- and anime-inspired visuals. Sep 22, 2023 Full Review John Paul King Washington Blade The love it lifts up is the kind ultimately has little to do with questions of sexual identity... the kind that transcends biology and sexuality to express something arguably more essential – the genuine emotional bond between two kindred souls. Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson ill LYTeracy (Substack) Tomeo and Jieafa are cute and charming, as is Asahi Hirono as a pleasantly goofy waitress who attracts them both, and that's what makes all the difference in an indie like this. Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Josh Bell Crooked Marquee It's exuberant and sweet and bursting with the endearingly clumsy earnestness of its main characters. sky c Absolutely loved it! Storytelling that kept your attention along with fun animations and funny quips. Loved how real it was and the main focus being on friendship. Already ready to rewatch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/27/23 Full Review Tianna F This movie was amazing!! Its vibe reminded me of Heartstopper and Lizzie McGuire meets queer bestie road trip comedy and I could not recommend it more! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Ron V Egghead & Twinkie is coming-of-age LGBTQ+ film of a recently out Asian American teen Twinkie and her nerdy best friend Egghead. Together, they set off on a 2,000-mile road trip to meet her online crush. It has all the tropes of a classic 80s teen movie. But its not just an 80s reboot for Generation Z. Instead, it explores one person's story to comprehend cultural and sexual identity and learn the importance of unconditional love. And it's also a great comedy! Sarah has incredible creative vision and a sense for conveying emotional weight. She also directed a wonderful cast and managed a highly capable creative team. But make no mistake...this is Sarah's film. Not only was she the Director, but also the Writer, Producer and Editor. I believe Sarah is the best of her generation and we will see her directing major feature films in the future. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Gizelle C What a delightful coming of age story. Loved the animation too. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/07/23 Full Review Audrey G Loved this film! I am not usually a fan of coming of age films, but from start to finish it surprises and delights. It's charming and poignant, well written, filmed, edited, and acted. The mix of animation and live action combined helped further develop an already personal, and fresh experience. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Patricia C Super cute coming of age, coming out, road trip movie. Great character development and cast. Very funny (and I usually don't laugh out loud with movies!). I'd watch it with my kids (10 and 13 y/o) again :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
