The Equalizer 2 Reviews

Apr 28, 2025

Not as good as the first movie. Slow burning. More of a murder mystery than a revenge story. Denzel is awesome as always.

A decent sequel that may slow down in action and excitement for a good middle chunk of the movie, but builds on grounded characterization and an insider deeper look into his world despite the thin direction of the plot. Denzel Washington is great as always while Pedro Pascal serves as a refreshingly different antagonist that sets him apart from the villains of the first movie. The mentorship between Denzel and the young teen was cute, even if it's final conversation after that crazy climax felt a bit thin coming from the terrified teen’s perspective. The action near the beginning was pretty entertaining and the climax set in the hurricane was a pretty cool setting. It’s not as exciting or purposeful as the first movie, but luckily there’s enough charm and care put into this to make it a decent sequel worth your time if you liked the first one.

Not nearly as good as the first. Drags on a bit. Just ok.

Equalizer 2 is very similar to the first, no real plot, good guy bad guy but Denzel brought me in much more and made me feel ... better, almost like a firm fatherly warmth because of his relationship with the boy compared to the first movie. Because of this relationship with the boy the movie had a better symmetry emotionally compared to the first leaving me feeling better at the end compared to the first movie. The real problem with this movie is little over halfway through it just became a shoot out with gruesome beatings that just went on forever, while we all knew he was going to win and the bad guys were going to lose. Because of this it falls a little short of Equalizer One but still way worth watching.

Gran película, a la altura de la original. La dosis justa de historias secundarias que resultan satisfactorias y una primaria repleta de accion.

The Equalizer 2 is very similar to its predecessor, but the editing got better and the film is much more satisfying emotionally. The main character is definitely the same and didn't change at all, but that was never the point. He is a protector and his morals are near perfect. The plot line with Sammy was my favourite part, the last scene with him is my favourite scene so far in the franchise. The dialogues are no bad, but the story is predictable and I already knew who the villain is so that wasn't a surprise either. I didn't like the twist, it felt forced, like the wanted to surprise the audience so much that they went too far. It just didn't make sense for me. The cinematography and directing is still just not bad, but the editing got better. I could see what was happening during the fight sequences and the pacing got a little better, but the film was still boring, so there's still much room to improve. The Equalizer 2 is worse in writing, but better in editing and pacing than the first movie.

Not as good as the first one but still great action and a great cast and story.

As a fan of Denzel Washington and having enjoyed *The Equalizer*, *Equalizer 2* fell a bit short. While Washington delivers a solid performance, the film lacks the spark that made the first one engaging. The action sequences, though well-choreographed, are too few and far between, with much of the runtime taken up by a story that feels overly predictable and cliché. Pedro Pascal shines as usual, adding a much-needed layer of charm, but it isn’t enough to elevate a story that ultimately feels thin and generic for its length. The movie is well-made, with sleek visuals and polished direction, but it lacks the refreshing feel of the original. Overall, *Equalizer 2* is a decent but forgettable thriller with more focus on plot than action, which doesn't quite hit the mark for fans of the first.

I guess the expectations were slightly higher for the sequel because the first film was so good. Not a bad film at all but this one leans more on the vengeance side rather than Justice and compassion.

Naively I thought that wrinkles had been ironed out and lessons had been learned, but about half way through I realized that The Equalizer 2 has inherited a lot of issues from the first one. It's not all bad - there are good moments and better characters, but Fuqua's lingering tempo and the script's lack of plot is frustrating. And once again the climax is one of the least exciting I've ever seen.

I prefer the first. A good story that could have been developed way better.

The first half started well-enough, but then the plot became predictable, they ruined the mystique of the character, and finished with a ho-hum action sequence (in a hurricane for enhanced dramatic effect). Of the trilogy, an argument could be made to skip this one.

If you like Denzel Washington you have to see all three of these

Boring as all hell with damn lazy writing

This was definitely better then the first but it kind of petered out in some scenes, and had a pretty weak/predictable ending to!

The Equalizer II is a sequel that's far more brilliant and nuanced than critics gave it credit for. Where the first film was an action-thriller that revealed a vicious antihero to the audience, exploring who Robert McCall really is, The Equalizer II's focus is grief and pain. The entire film is washed in sorrow and mourning as it explored heady themes with bursts of nasty action to punctuate the drama. Seriously, The Equalizer films are incredible and deserving of so much more love.

is an OK movie, but first one was better. Also WHY IS PEDRO PASCAL EVERYWHERE?????

May 7, 2024

would have been a OK movie without Pedro Pascal, he just kills it.
