Evil Dead Reviews

Apr 29, 2025

My thoughts on this one just don't sway... It's actually a rather fun reboot. It's disappointing that they lose the absurdist humor, replacing it with just punishing brutality and gore. It loses some of its Deadite magic in that move. But it's effective and the gore is quality. My only other issues are with continuity, but those are nit-picks. It's still a fun revamp.

An absolute classic, a must watch for gore fans.

Pains me to say I actually liked this one more than its 1981 counterpart, but I did. Not too much more, but when you're five minutes longer than the original, yet still feel more aerodynamic pacing-wise, I kinda have to give you the medal. Of course, with that faster pacing comes lesser character development, but I didn't really need this to be that sort of horror movie, if that makes sense? Once you start seeing the gore effects at work, you realize what this movie's really cooking with. And, considering I'm not even really a 'gore guy' per se, it says a lot that I came out of this with that being one of the clear highlights. Plus, I think time's only been kinder to this movie as an homage to the Sam Raimi classic. Future Fede Alvarez efforts would show that he really was working out of his stylistic comfort zone here in many ways (evocative camera movement, canted angles, etc.), winking decisively, yet subtly and not in a way that feels like 'memberberry' pandering. Thank God this did as well as it did too, for it led us towards those aforementioned romps he's made since ("Don't Breathe" and "Alien: Romulus" being my two favorites).

This movie is exactly as a remake should be. Utilizing the original movie's vibe, but being able to improve on it with modern movie making. Evil Dead truly captures the absolute shlock, gory fun of the first movie but being bigger, badder, and much bloodier and gorier. An absolutely brutal movie, it's effects and performances bring a gorefest into something more memorable then most people give it credit for. For hardcore horror fans, a must watch, absolutely.

This movie is bananas! Gory , nasty, brutal, and unrelenting. Amazing practical effects and kills! People complain cause the tone is different but this is its own thing! Must watxh.

This film is a really worthy remake of The Evil Dead which is full of bloody scenes, good characters and which is better, is not just the modern copy from the original in contrast to, it takes good decisions and let us a really nice final girl.

I think people hate on this film because they want it to be the original Evil Dead. It is it's own version. It is darker in tone but still feels like Evil Dead in vibes. The cinematography is amazing. The effects are phenomenal. The writing is great. The acting is perfect. It all comes together so well. This is a wonderful directed piece of art that 100% feels like Evil Dead. It is super bloody. It has memorable lines that definetley feel Evil Deadish. The ending is great.

If you're a fan of the "ORIGINAL" Evil Dead, you'll enjoy this one. The idea of addiction recovery is a powerful mix between Deadietes, and withdrawal.

(SPOILERS IN SECOND PARAGRAPH) Ash Williams will always be my favourite guy in films, but damn... Evil Dead 2013 is my all-time favourite horror movie ever! I just can't get over how amazing the visuals are, the music and the atmosphere it creates. Bloody and gory movies are my favourite so this hits that spot really well. That scene at the end where Mia chainsaws the creature in half while it's raining blood and the burning cabin in the background, it is so cinematic and an 11/10 scene. I would literally make it my wallpaper it's that good. When I watch horror, this is always a re-watch for me.

Decent story with some good callbacks to the original series, but is missing the dark humor that is essential for the Evil Dead series but makes up for with a shower of gore.

I have to start by saying that Sam Raimi's original EVIL DEAD trilogy has been a personal favorite since my teenage years. EVIL DEAD 2 stands out as the best of the three for me, striking the perfect balance between horror and comedy, while ARMY OF DARKNESS leans more into its goofy, cheesy charm. But it’s the first EVIL DEAD that delivers a relentless, low-budget terror that still packs a punch today, even with its undeniably campy effects. This remake, thankfully, shakes things up just enough in the story to keep even hardcore fans of the original on their toes. It manages to stay true to the spirit of the original film while adding a modern touch. The same suspense lingers throughout, that heart-pounding question of who’s next to fall victim to the curse. However, it’s all slicked up with a Hollywood polish that contrasts with the scrappy, zero-budget feel of the original. What really took me by surprise was just how much the gore has been cranked up. This is one of the most brutal, visceral horror films I’ve seen in years, with several scenes so intense they’re hard to watch. The chainsaw scenes teased back in the '80s? They’re here in full, bloody force. The production values are solid, and the cast does a decent job with what they’re given. Is it as good as the original? No, it doesn’t quite capture that raw, terrifying edge, but it sure does deliver on the gross-out factor. For modern horror fans, it’s a blood-soaked thrill ride, mixing demonic possession with over-the-top violence in a way that won’t disappoint.

Absolutely my favorite horror film, bar none! Though I've seen it at least 10 times, it still gets me. I was skeptical since it was a remake but it DID NOT disappoint. Great jump scares, a plot that moves and gore like you wouldn't believe. Watch. This. Movie!!

This is my favorite horror movie of all time. Forget it being a "remake", just focus on it being a HORROR movie and it hits ALL the right notes. The pacing, the gore, the scares. For me, it is the standard by which I compare all horror movies Ive ever watched since I first saw it in theaters, and there are very few that measure up to it. It's the only one I can rewatch over and over and it still creeps me out every time.

Is this my favourite Evil Dead movie? No. But is this an incredible stand-alone movie that had me literally trembling when I first saw it at 17? Abso-freaking-lutely yes.
