Critics Consensus

A horror/rom-com hybrid that somehow manages to blend its ingredients without losing their flavor, Extra Ordinary more than lives up to its title.

Perri Nemiroff Collider A super silly and enjoyable experience. Rated: A- Feb 7, 2021 Full Review Al Horner Empire Magazine An unfalteringly funny, ectoplasm-drenched horror-comedy that deserves the cult status it's destined for. Rated: 4/5 Mar 30, 2020 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News "Extra Ordinary" is an extraordinarily funny tale about ghostbusting, lonely hearts and moving on. It'll possess you. Rated: B+ Mar 16, 2020 Full Review Ryan McQuade InSession Film Some really good special effects for a small film of this size. Plus, anytime a film can have Will Forte playing a singing bad guy, I really can't say I had a bad time. Apr 4, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A promising debut feature from the writer-director team of Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman, Extra Ordinary is just clever, funny, and referential enough to earn a modest cult following. Rated: 3/4 Feb 21, 2022 Full Review Jason Adams My New Plaid Pants Is there a good way to say "Extra Ordinary is Extraordinary!" without being a total cheeseball sell-out but still managing to get that onto the movie's poster? Because Extra Ordinary is extraordinary and I want the whole wide world to know it Jan 14, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

judy w Weird but a fun movie cheesy parts and lots of sight gags interesting how it played out Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/19/20 Full Review Dean B Quirky, fun and endlessly unexpected. Sometimes the Irish dialect was a bit hard to follow, but it didn't affect your ability to follow the story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/18/20 Full Review Mary M Quirky, Funny and Entertaining! Just an all around feel good movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/14/20 Full Review Tsz Kin H So freakin funny and such a beautifully made film. Rare to see those things come together. Has cult classic written all over it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/08/20 Full Review Audience Member Light and fun. Hell-LO, where else will you get a scene with Sister Michael from Derry Girls credited as "Boring Noreen" and Will Forte singing "🎶 Cosmic woman, la-la-la 🎶"? A slow take on the "wacky local people and their shenanigans" trope which I love. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review Claudio C Extra Ordinary (2019) Uneven Movie (11,657 – 30 Apr 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In Ireland, the driving instructor Rose Dooley (Maeve Higgins) is a woman with the talent to contact and send spirit to the afterlife, and a childhood trauma. Her father, the famous paranormal Vincent Dooley (Risteárd Cooper), died when she forgot the spelling she should say. Presently, she ignores requests from people that ask for her help. When she is hired to give a driving lesson by Martin Martin (Barry Ward), he confesses that his daughter Sarah Martin (Emma Coleman) asked him to contact Rose to send his wife and Sarah’s mother Bonnie to the afterlife since she is bothering them at home. However, Rose declines his request for help. Meanwhile, the satanist Christian Winter (Will Forte), who is one-hit wonder musician, will sacrifice a virgin woman on the blood moon to become popular again. When his wife Claudia Winter (Claudia O'Doherty) accidentally kills his victim, he is forced to find another virgin woman. He uses a special tool and finds Martin’s daughter Sarah working in a store. He uses a spell that makes Sarah float over her bed. Martin calls Rose and she uses a spell to hold Sara at home. Rose teams up with Martin to collect ectoplasm to break Sarah’s spell. Will they succeed in saving Sarah? “Extra Ordinary” (2019) is an Irish Belgian comedy horror movie that does not work very well. There are good jokes and gags, but also some that do not work since they are predictable, and in the end, “Extra Ordinary” is an uneven movie. The intention to have witty jokes fails with gruesome scenes like Martin vomiting ectoplasm. Maeve Higgins is not funny and shows no chemistry with Barry Ward, and Will Forte is a stupid villain. My vote is five. Title (Brazil): “Muito Além do Ordinário” (“Far Beyond Ordinary”) My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
