Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review Ash P Before we get into this review, I will go ahead and say that to be fair, I'm not the biggest fan of these movies, but at the least when given the chance, I can appreciate them from an average viewpoint. But for now, we go into the film that started the franchise. With this film, I always found it to be in the middle. Not terrible. Not great. I just found it fine. I will say the kills were great and creative, the score for the movie was good, and the acting was also great. Of course, death's design can be well paced when cheating it from a teenager's premonition of a bigger event before the events that take the survivors out one-by-one. What keeps the film going is the thrill of what comes next as death, being a malevolent force that it is, tracks down and pulls the strings of its next victim. With the characters, I always thought of them being your usual high school drama set of troupes like you have your outcast, you bully, your best friend as they are written as such. I do give Alex credit along with Clear that they are better written for the script that they were given. Even enjoyed Alex the most as he's learning more about his premonitions while piecing together death's plan. I'll admit, one of the characters, Carter mostly, is one of my nitpicks. Being more of a whiner when he's nothing more but the jerk despite being played by a good actor. Like if I were to see him approach me, I wouldn't hold back to smack him back. But I digress. Also nice to see Tony Todd on the screen, rest in peace, even if it's just one screen being the coroner. I give this film six and a half car on the train tracks out of ten. 6.5/10. I've been meaning to watch this franchise for ages - happy to get started. The only thing I know coming in is there's some sort of scene with a car driving behind a (presumably unsafely loaded) lorry? Presumably that's in a sequel. This is the first time I've watched Devon Sawa at this age of his, I know from watching 온라인카지노추천's 'Chucky' that people always mention this film(s?) when talking about him. He is a well chosen lead, for sure. Ali Larter is solid too. Interesting to see Seann William Scott involved. Some of the characters behind that trio are iffy, in terms of how they are written/portrayed. Kerr Smith's Carter is mostly annoying, for example. Larter's Clear is written a bit odd around the middle part too. The bit with touching the thing (no spoilers) with Kristen Cloke's character is also silly. To be fair, it is a movie designed to be entertaining rather than being something super intricate and highly logical. It does deliver in regards to the former, the effects are great and the deaths do get nicely creative. It is well paced as well, a 90 minute run time is perfect for a film like this. I will say that the ending seemed a bit off to me (if still fun and fine), it kinda felt like the filmmakers didn't know how to end it given how the 'skipping' works and obviously they wanted to set a sequel. It's not a big issue whatsoever, it did seem a little roughly concluded though. All in all, as you can see from my rating, I did love watching it.
