Critics Consensus

Despite a panel of X-Files' alums at the helm and a promising premise, flighty performances and poor execution keep Final Destination from ever taking off.

Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly Rated: B+ Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety Generates a respectable amount of suspense and takes a few unexpected turns while covering familiar territory. Mar 27, 2009 Full Review Time Out This portentous chiller is a nasty piece of work. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid The dialogue, by Glen Morgan, James Wong and Jeffrey Reddick, is, for the most part, thoughtful and the death scenes are delightfully gruesome. A Rated: 3/4 Apr 23, 2025 Full Review Brian Bisesi Horror Movie Club Podcast Final Destination is a vapidly entertaining film, with sleek production and effects making up for a lackluster plot and bland characters. The film’s bread and butter are its elaborate deaths, and on this front it mostly delivers. Jaxon H Pacing really slowed down at the end and had some really unnecessary scenes. Also thought the acting was really generic and bland. Camera work was sloppy and generic. Only thing that was okay about this movie was the creative and innovative deaths. Suspense wasn't really that intense, you know what's going to happen before it happens. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/25 Full Review Stephen C **** this, I'm getting out of here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Issa S Final Destination is hands-down the best in the series. I was only two when it came out, but rewatching it in high school and again now reminded me how terrifying everyday life can be — yet we still take risks. This film is a fun, suspenseful ride with a brilliantly original concept. The kills are memorably cool, and the characters are easy to root for. It’s horror with brains and attitude. I’m so excited for Final Destination: Bloodlines and can’t wait to see how everything ties together. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Timothy P The premise is fascinating but the writing is bad and most of these actors are just bad and annoying. Some of the sequels are better...
