Ben Sachs Chicago Reader Damien Chazelle is an enthusiastic, visually expressive filmmaker with practically nothing of interest to say about the human experience. Mar 3, 2020 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint First Man doesn't just dwell on its subject's achievements. It takes a beat to glance into Armstrong's personal motivations and vulnerabilities while using technical mastery to tell an engrossing true-life story. Jul 29, 2019 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman In those sequences when Armstrong is heading for the stars, the approach is so immersive on a sensory level -- cacophonous sound design, juddering cinematography verging on the abstract -- that it almost compensates for the void at the film's core. Jan 26, 2019 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film First Man is extravagant filmmaking it every way. The craft is sharp. The story is surprising. The emotion is real. Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Calum Cooper Source (Scotland) Subsequently, we also see how Armstrong looks to the moon for escapism. Behind First Man is a captivating look at grief. Rated: 3/5 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Ryan McQuade InSession Film The cinematography in the film is fantastic and for his first film not about music, Chazelle gets the best score of any of his films from composer Justin Hurwitz, one that might just be my favorite score of the year so far Rated: A Apr 3, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Will K First Man is an extremely powerful movie, accurately showing the extreme physical, emotional and mental difficulties faced by the American astronauts in the 1960's. I suppose if you're brought up on a diet of Marvel superhero movies, you might struggle with a movie that thoughtfully explores human psychology and the effort of will that it takes to push forward into the unknown, but I absolutely cannot fathom the reasoning of the (presumably) young people calling this "boring" or "lacking a plot". The actors all did an incredible job - Ryan Gosling was absolutely perfect as Armstrong - and the cinematography was truly amazing. I also loved the way the director occasionally used actual recordings of Armstrong and his fellow astronauts. I truly cannot understand how this movie and its cast didn't walk away with a bunch of Oscars. It's a great film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review Joshua U watched this with my mom and it upset her and i stopped watching at one point waste of time no real plot besides the takeoff sequences it was terrible cinematography Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Numair H A Biography Done right with a visual journey! First Man follows Neil Armstrong's journey and the whole buildup to the moon launch. No wonder it took a lot of trial and failure before we finally got to the lonely asteroid up there, but this film brings us another perspective that often goes unnoticed. The family that endures the pain, the kids that go orphan, and of course the astronauts themselves are put through something at the same level if not tougher levels than that of a military trainee combined with a literal Rocket scientist. As a huge space nerd and a Ryan Gosling fan, my only regret was not experiencing it in the cinema to its full extent. It's nothing short of experiencing Oppenheimer, to be honest with you. With amazing visuals and immersion and of course the brilliant cinematography of Damien Chazelle. All in all, a brilliant biopic that deserves all the great ratings it is getting. PROS: - Beautiful Visuals. - Great storytelling. - Very immersive experience. - Highlight all important sacrifices made for this endeavor. CONS: - Some fast pacing at parts to get through a whole decade. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Jeffrey O Movie was extremely boring. Movie, if i can call it that, had the goal to show Neil had some weird psychological issues.. Probably because all the Apollo crew were forced to pretend they went to the moon and thus some couldn't cope with that lie well thus they were forever damaged goods. This movie doesnt deserve the high score it has here. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/10/25 Full Review Bernadette J That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. The U.S.A. flag should have been included. Armstrong was representing the U.S.A. Republic and wasn't just about him, and our taxpayer money paid for this. U.S. citizens were glued to the floor model 온라인카지노추천s. I was 8 years old and we had to watch this with Walter Cronkite hosting this historical phenomenon. Movie was too slow and too fragmented, close-ups were too much. I like Ryan Gosling which is why I gave 3 stars. Special effects, not impressed. Alien movie (1st movie w/Sigourney Weaver) special effects for space travel was absolutely excellent. This movie was empty and dry. Felt no chemistry with any of the actors.
