Morose post-apocalpytic drama centering on five survivors who amass inside a mountain-top cabin and attempt to begin life anew. Both the epilogue and prologue contain quotes from the Bible, with the flick acting as a new Adam and Eve analogy - but who gets Eve, is the question. Bleak, without a stitch of levity, this Hammer offering is played straight, as it reveals the horrors of man both en masse - and as individuals. ***/5*

A deep interesting post-apocalyptic film. It doesn't handle everything smoothly, but it does enough to leave you thinking. Good characters, decent pacing, and a fair ending.

Said to be the first film to show a post apocalyptic world following a nuclear disaster. Much smarter than your typical 50s sci-fi fare, although the dialogue is a bit writerly at times.

A pretty good psychological study, but lousy about good science. This film was originally released in 1951, which is about the time anti-nuclear fervor (and fear) began to bias even scientists with misinformation. http://atomicinsights.com/muller-and-linear-no-threshold/ Basically, the premise is impossible with nuclear weapons - and patently ridiculous if talking about nuclear power plants. But is certainly possible (though still improbable) with viral pandemics. It is artistic endeavors like this that inspired many of the most fervant anti-nukes, like Helen Caldicott.
