Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare Reviews

An abysmal horror flick that suffers from Freddy’s endless (and awful) puns and useless cameos by Johnny Depp, Roseanne Barr, and others.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Oct 20, 2024

The producers have decided to throw in the towel for this finger-knived incubus. [Full review in Spanish]

If there was ever a movie I despise more, I have yet to find it. Freddy's Dead is an insult to the franchise and complete embarrassment for Freddy Krueger. Not a single performance, kill, joke, or cameo (forgive me Alice Cooper!) works in any way.

| Original Score: 0/5 | Aug 20, 2022

The movie is well made, the final reel makes clever use of 3-D, but no one will be sorry to see the last of Englund.

The only novelty in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (let's hope so) is an indifferent 3-D interlude at the end of this Elm Street saga.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Apr 13, 2022

You almost have to admire its audacity, but as a way to close out a (mostly) beloved horror franchise? This ain't it.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 21, 2021

It's not good, but the camp/trash is as deliberate as the homages to the previous entries in the franchise. One wishes Lisa Zane and Yaphet Kotto had more to do, but there's playfulness and subversion here that should be applauded

| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 15, 2021

It's an incredibly poor way to end the series, unfaithful in its storytelling and tone, pervaded by rock music segues for modernity, and utterly amateurish in its execution.

| Original Score: 1/10 | Sep 13, 2020

The joke is on the filmmakers: By taking the finality out of death, they've already robbed the horror genre of its giddy sting.

| Original Score: C- | Jan 27, 2019

An admitted guilty pleasure and one that delivers the corn ball gags by the dozens.

Undoubtedly the nadir of the Elm Street series...

| Original Score: 1/4 | Oct 19, 2010

Freddy Krueger's 3-D death is about as lame as the rest of this crummy flick, the sixth and supposedly last in the often imaginative but ultimately numbing Nightmare on Elm Street series.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Jul 6, 2010

One of the weaker entries.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Apr 5, 2010

The one interesting idea -- what would a town be like if all the teenagers in it had been slaughtered in five movies? -- is thrown away with a few cheap jokes.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 5, 2010

Sixth and final edition in the Nightmare on Elm Street feature series delivers enough violence, black humor and even a final reel in 3-D to hit paydirt with horror-starved audiences.

The Final Nightmare marks an end to Freddy's wisecracking ways. This surrealistic nightmare fits the style perfectly, but sometimes lacks in imagination.

It makes less sense than any preceding Nightmare film...although it's so out-and-out crazy that it's at least a little bit more entertaining than some of them

| Original Score: 3/10 | Sep 12, 2007

Even the much-heralded 3-D finale is murky and unimaginative.
