I gave this a spin via Netfux Streaming, and I was impressed. You get a nice overview of hip-hop fashion and how the earliest designers started out using pieces of other designers clothing to deconstruct and rebuild to make their own pieces, then went mainstream with a certain urban lifestyle look. Worth a rental.

Fantastic first half covering the origins of Hip Hop in the 5 boroughs, and it's style. How a desolate South Bronx gave birth to scratching, rap, breaking, graffiti and the distinctive fashion. Loses its way in the second half. Instead of covering gold chains, and African - influence it goes all economic Zoolander.

As a young kid growing up in east los angeles hip hop and fashion have always been one thing. But what disappointed me the most about this film was that it didn't even bother to touch on the brands that i wear now. Aka my generation brands . 06- now It instead skipped that chunk and went to just kanye west brand and sean john (because thats what the urban hip hop head wears nowadays). Where were the Supreme,Diamond,LRG,Obey etc? Is that hip hop enough for you guys ? i love that yes this movie gives a timeline feel about hip hop and fashion, i just feel that a piece of the puzzle was missing.

Utterly shite. Starts off promising.

It was on CNN, I only casually payed attention to it and I guess it's a well done documentary but I don't think highly of the fashion industry and it's trends (especially the Hip-Hop style, though I love the music) so I'm probably giving it a lower rating than it deserves.

An incredibly well done documentary about how fashion and hip-hop have and do go hand in hand. The film was seamless and progressed through the history of being fresh dressed so well that it was over before I knew it and it left me wanting more! Def a must see!

Amazing doc! Very in depth coverage and super fun to watch. Highly recommend for anyone interested in hip-hop and fashion!
