Grossly inaccurate and fear mongering.

When are we going to learn that if we stick crap into the earth, she's gonna spit it out right back at us? And that we're going to end up eating it, drinking it and bathing our children in it? Whether it is garbage in landfills, acid water eating at the foundations of Joburg, or our latest toy, high-pressured, chemically treated, carcinogenic water that is used in the hotly debated fracking practice. It really does make no sense. In a nutshell Josh Fox is approached by an oil company to lease his land to them for fracking. They offer him a lot of money, enough to make him suspicious. He decides to investigate and sets off with video camera in hand to the closest county where fracking is being used. Mood of the film Josh starts out by being merely intrigued by people being able to set their tap water on fire. Soon the reality of the situation sets in and his mood darkens towards despair. Best one-liner A rhetorical question posed by a pro-fracker to Halliburton, the company pioneering fracking: "If you weren't able to do this hydraulic fracturing, how much more would we be dependent on foreign oil? And terrorism?" Best performance Josh is certainly the star of his own documentary, but he is upstaged on a few occasions by some intriguing characters he interviews. I especially enjoyed the auntie keeping dead animals in her freezer as proof. Horrifying scene A farmer uses a blowtorch to heat his well water, water both he and his wife drank. The liquid plastic in the water soon turns to small plastic sheets as it melts together! Negatives Not enough people will see this film. Is the film relevant today? Come on! A documentary with a vitally important subject, which probably could have reached a far wider audience with a more experienced director.

8/27/16 Netflix An eye opening, Oscar nominated documentary. Scary, disturbing, anger inducing and other adjectives apply here. Corporate greed, political corruption and the exploitation of the citizens is clearly detailed. Finally, there is the conundrum of reliance on foreign aources of energy versus locally produced energy. As an aside there is one more reason presented as to hy Dick Cheny may be the worst human in US history.

Everything you need to know with respect to truth is not in Gasland but here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTJaaeiuzSU

Russian propaganda film spewing mistrust about hydraulic fracturing. Considering the ruskies export tons of gas to Europe, fear is a tool used to prevent fracking from becoming more mainstream.

"Gasland" is a surprisingly interesting documentary that presents a concept that, in the wrong hands, can be really boring. But in the hands of Josh Fox, he presents this story in an entertaining and sometimes scary way that is truly engrossing.

Not only factually interesting, but also quite aesthetically pleasing. The camera-work can be a little headache-inducing at times, but it fits the mood and tone. It's gonna be interesting, over the next 50 years, how Dick Cheney is viewed by history. I just hope, at the very least, the damage that he's done to society in the pursuit of his own self-interest is recognised. The ultimate tragedy would be not just that he committed crimes with impunity, but that in some people's eyes they weren't even crimes.

Ok, I can't hold my tongue. Fox has put nothing in this documentary that relates to fracking. This movie is EXTREMELY overrated.

this movie talks about the water drought that California is suffering from

Scary stuff... Must see if you live within the United States.

This movie can hardly be considered a documentary. It is entertaining and uses your typical scare-tactic of journalism to get people interested, but it has a lot of misleading information, scientific inaccuracies, and could not be further from an objective documentary. It is appalling that a movie can get away with calling itself a documentary and continue so many lies and scientific inaccuracies.

The amount of preventable and premature deaths tied to the carcinogens the environmental agency isn't allowed to look for would seem to be pretty staggering.

Misleading and inaccurate

This documentary starts off with a strange character picking his banjo while wearing a gas mask.......This is what happens when the "National Enquirer" mindset switches over to HD video documentary mode. A good mode for the illiteratus stultus! This documentary was entertaining but I sensed it was too heavily biased against the so-called big, bad Oil and Gas companies! I also found it contained obvious exaggerated claims and just a bit too much misinformation to be taken seriously. So I compared it with another documentary entitled FrackNation...... Between these two extremes I believe I was able to find a comfortable and solid foundation from which to identify the truth and take appropriate action. An educated environmentalist will steer away from this snake pit so as to avoid becoming another "Goron"...... i.e., Al Gore groupie! So for the joker picking the Banjo let me just say.... "If you don't stop picking at it, it may never heal".......

Compelling, entertaining, terrifying documentary with a strong enough voice and shocking enough footage to keep us engaged in the important subject matter.
