Gloria Bell Reviews
Goes to show you how little audience scores really mean anything. These reviews from the audience is so wack. Julianne Moore delivered so well in this American version of this Chilean movie by the same director and man did she do amazing or what? Yes, she did. It's a cute lovely and feel good movie. You come to this movie for Julianne Moore as Gloria and the whole movie was about her and trying to navigate her life post divorce and trying to find her way and place in this world. Moore gave an all time performance through and through. Music choice was perfect and the emotions. Beautiful.
We walked out...enough said. Oh yeah, Julianne Moore topless, gross!
Even without the original’s momentary accessibility, Julianne Moore expectedly shines, as well John Turturro in problematic gravitas form, in the self-made, visually-translated remake seemingly geared radiative capture than fleshing the story with captivated engagement – unless the thematic lengths are based towards an empathetically reflective demographic. Anyone who manages to slog through a movie as boring and emotionless as this could at least be rewarded with a happy ending, but alas no. The music and blurred cinematography further detract from the experience.
Good performances, ok casting, abysmal script. Could have been much better. It just needed a completely different approach and a better structured script. It was obviously going for a “Lost in translation” kind of vibe but didn’t get anywhere close. Not even remotely.
Julianne Moore gave an unparalleled performance that was the heart and soul of the movie. I was left wondering if this was because of the director or the actress, or both? In any case, purely outstanding work.
It started out really interesting but the last quarter and ending was just mediocre. Watch if there's nothing else on.
Gloria is working on having a life despite dysfunctional relationships with her ex & a new relationship is only legally divorced. Julianne Moore carries the movie, but supporting actors also shine.
One of the worst movies I've seen yet. What a waste of my time
This American remake of the 2013 Spanish film GLORIA, helmed by the same director, came and went with little fanfare or attention. That's a shame, because Julianne Moore's truly wonderful performance deserved awards consideration. She is by far the highlight of this slice of life comedy/drama, and even when the plot begins to strain credulity a bit, Moore keeps everything anchored. She is one of the bravest actors at work today - physically and emotionally - and her performance is raw and honest. There's not much of a plot here - it's definitely a character study - but like a good meal, the more I thought about it afterwards, the more I realized how special it was. There is a plot twist 3/4 of the way through involving Turturro that I felt didn't seem realistic, but it's a minor quibble. The supporting cast is exceptional, with a couple faces I haven't seen in a long time. And the soundtrack is wonderful - everything from Earth Wind and Fire to Laura Branigan! It reminded me a bit of a film like RACHEL GETTING MARRIED in its emotional realness and character introspection - and that is high praise indeed!
Julianne Moore is excellent and shows her true ability to carry a movie. Gloria Bell is not a feel good movie. But rather a movie about life, and the realistic twists that make it fun, exciting, and sorrowful. You constantly find yourself in an emotional coaster rooting for Gloria to win.
Me imagino assim daqui alguns anos curtindo a vida moderadamente, viajando, talvez namorando, curtindo a família e trabalhando... Trágico, dramático, realista e feliz...
This is a somewhat subtle and understated film about a middle aged woman living in the LA, who expresses herself via visits to the local dance/nights clubs, which lead to a number of relationships. It may make you think about how society judges and reacts to people who don't have too much to tie themselves down to. It features a good performance from Julianne Moore as the titular character and I enjoyed the music played in certain scenes - there are some decent disco tunes played, for one. I think this film is good from a feminist point of view, depicting a woman who is quite determined to live life her own way, though 'empty nest syndrome' does play a role in this film. I suppose you could say its about detachment perhaps?. Plot wise it seemed a little slow perhaps and possibly somewhat directionless in the first half of the film maybe, though that may be being a bit harsh but otherwise I would gladly recommend this film. I think it's good that Hollywood are depicting such tales.
Una mujer fantástica Gloria, es la enseñanza clara que no hay edades para poder decir claramente que Yo prefiero bailar sola.
Interesting movie, with a robust story and good acting
Incorrectly described on here as a romantic comedy. No, if you enjoy depressing realism you'll enjoy this.
As a woman in my mid fifties, I would have to say Diane nailed this as an actress and producer!
I like Julianne Moore & John Turturro, but they sometimes make poor choices of films in which to be involved. This was one of those. Don't bother. It was a sadish story and told in a rather mundane manner.
This was a "stuck on a plane for the next 6 hours" film for me, otherwise I would've never watched it all the way through. After viewing it, I really started to question how airlines pick these films, as this one went nowhere, except you get to see Julianne Moore's breasts while she's read poetry. So, if that's what you were looking for...Lo and behold! This film is for you, and that's about all you'll get out of it, because the dialogue stares longingly at itself through its own a@#hole, and plays like an immature art school brat production. The draw here for me was John Turturro, as his character was loaded with agony due to the relationship with his wife and his daughters. I kept watching because his character's story had me intrigued, and it went nowhere. I was disappointed, although--again, he does read poetry to Julianne Moore's breasts, and the conversation is deep while her breasts are out. So...it's not the best movie to watch on a plane, because your neighbor can't really hear the poetry, but they can see you watching Julianne Moore's breasts.
