Pieter-Jan Van Haecke Psychocinematography Oda’s narrative offers the Japanese spectator a message of hope, yet not without underlining that what is repressed today will resurface another day – i.e. the truth of the pacific war cannot be effaced. Nov 29, 2022 Full Review Harris Dang The AU Review With an even more explosive climax involving air raids and avalanches, Godzilla Raids Again may not be as emotionally satisfying as the original film, but it does provide other pleasures and it is just as inspirational of what is to come. Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Evan Saathoff Birth.Movies.Death. Godzilla Raids Again doesn't know the rules of being a Godzilla movie because many had not yet been invented. It creates a big one (the fights), but often goes off on its own, merry way, making it something of a charming gem. May 24, 2019 Full Review Film4 Staff Film4 Great fun. May 24, 2019 Full Review Sky Staff Sky Cinema Still, it's good fun, if you like watching a couple of guys in monster suits trashing model cities that is. Rated: 3/5 May 24, 2019 Full Review Rob Humanick Suite101.com Unwise in investing so much time in its human characters, who are poorly drawn and never particularly compelling. Collin M Is it anywhere near comparable to the original 1954 film? No, not at all. Godzilla Raids Again lacks the emotional depth and dark thematic elements that made Godzilla so powerful. The film isn't all negatives though. It's the first to entroduce the monster on monster brawl it out fights the series is known so well for, and it's a pretty cool fight at that. While Raids Again isn't as memorable as the original, it still has a few things to offer. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Laura B Not as good as the original, but still a great sequel which introduced the "monsters fighting while destroying a city" trope. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Audience Member A failed sequel to a good original, main complaint is that its boring but still interesting plot Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/14/24 Full Review josh d Under appreciated, but flawed. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Riley T a stinker unfortunately, boring af characters and story and action nowhere near as good as the original. godzilla and gamera moments were kinda cool but thas it Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Justin T Not quite as good as the first movie, it is basically more of the same with some anomalies introduced that make it very slightly worse. There feels like there is even more padding between the giant monster attacks and the padding is even less interesting than the first film. When Godzilla is smashing or fighting you still smile but with the caveat that some of the footage is sped-up to look goofy rather than slowed down to look more epic. There wasn’t enough giant monster action to make it anything special. I suppose to its credit, it does pave the way for monster on monster fighting action rather than just giant monster smashing city the first one was. There are some funny moments.
