Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson Reviews
Interesting movie. Give you many concerns about the human being.
Its the pearl that shinning from middle dark sea
Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr Hunter S Thompson won't shed a lot of light on Thompson's life or work for those familiar with his journalism and exploits in general, but it does serve as an excellent tool to remember him by and wonder how he would have reacted to the world in which we currently live. For those unfamiliar with his life and the concept of Gonzo journalism, the documentary is an excellent primer for a unique perspective on Richard Nixon, the 1972 American election, the Hells Angels, municipal politics in Aspen Colorado and a myriad of other subjects. Thompson, like the documentary, was usually divisive but always entertaining.
Excellent movie. Proof that good and evil can coexist in Mericca! If you are on the druggie and lefty side, you think that Christians and those that honor the constitution are evil and vise- versa. Most of the time we coexist peacefully. Unlike some other places! It's entertainment value is sub par and should be remade!! Borat may make it better!
Hunter S.T. and the Gonzo style was one that many I'm sure wish had been discovered earlier and one to be reckoned with since. "Too weird to live, too rare to die." Great documentary on not just a cultural enigma, but a necessary icon.
A good documentary outlining why he was so important and famous but man oh man did he flame out hard.
Few Can Seperate Themseleves From The Ideals, Norms Of Society Like This Man. A Perpetual Unsatisfied Visionary Of Which I Can Definitively Relate To. What Can One Do But Stand Up For What They Believe In? Nice Homage To A Passion Now Needed More Than Ever.. What A Pity.
Fantastically in depth look at Thompson's most productive years. Painted a nice picture of a fearless patriot and certified nut. Certainly no angel and this doc is more than willing to show the human faults as well as the achievements equally.
Good but there is a better documentary of Hunter Thompson out there titled "Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride."
Well a 'die hard" fan might wish for more about Hunter I don't know why. I am a Hunter Thompson fan and thought it was enough of a film, covering most bases I think and having quite a lot of footage and comments from friends and family.
Literally did not know a thing about Hunter Thompson until I watched this amazing documentary about a very interesting and colourful character. Wow! Looking forward to reading some of his books.
I love Hunter's books and the man himself is very interesting. I think this documentary serves a healthy perspective of him. I guess his story is quite sad in the end, he could have made something of his later years but i guess that's how it goes. The set pieces in this seem a little cheesy, with the reenactments it was like one of those crime shows. The cast of people interviewed was quite interesting but it seems so odd how his son is hardly featured and various politicians hog the screen time. I guess that might be testament to Hunter not being around for his son too much. As much as I enjoy Johnny Depp i found his narration kind of weird, and i thought it was odd he wasn't interviewed too considering people say he was a good friend. I think the history behind each book Hunter wrote was very valuable to see, though for some people it may take away the experience of reading any, i also found it weird how they didn't mention half of his bibliography. Other than that i think this documentary is good and doesn't shy away too much from talking about his short comings. To me Hunter is someone i admire but i'd say he kind of makes it difficult sometimes.
It was ok. Fear and Loathing is one of my favorite books but this doc actually makes me lose respect for him. I agree with his ex-wife that now was the time for him to make potentially great work instead of just copping out. I thought the music selection was too cliched too. Good footage though.
Hunter S. Thompson was one of the most eccentric, unique writers in the literary genre. This is a great documentary about the life and legacy of Hunter S. Thompson. The film comprises interviews of people who knew Thompson and they talk about his legacy. I've read some of his work, and it is brilliant, eccentric, and bizarre, but above all original. Brilliantly captured on film, this is a film that not only tells Thompson's story, but takes a look at the time period of which he became famous. Although not a perfect documentary, this is a good enough film that will definitely appeal to his fans. I enjoyed the documentary and it was quite entertaining from start to finish. The interviews are very good and will definitely delight fans of the late author. Hunter S. Thompson was a unique author and an important one at that. This is a fine little film that should be seen. Although it is not for everyone, Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson is a well crafted documentary that is very good and overcomes its flaws due to the fact that it tells such a powerful story about one of the most legendary authors. The film not only focuses on his work, but on his life and his impact on the medium. After watching this film, you realize how important Hunter S. Thompson was. Often bizarre, but constantly entertaining and engaging, this is a well crafted documentary that you should see if you love Thompson's work, then definitely check this film out, you will definitely enjoy it. Hunter S. Thompson was a brilliant writer and an important one at that that made a huge impact on popular culture.
