David Fear Time Out Rated: 3/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Grindhouse is both impressive and disappointing. From a technical and craft point of view it is first-rate; from its standing in the canon of the two directors, it is minor. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 26, 2007 Full Review Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal The whole thing runs a bit over three hours, goes by swiftly, contains countless film references and includes hilarious fake trailers. Apr 9, 2007 Full Review Mattie Lucas The Dispatch (Lexington, NC) An outrageously entertaining, slam-bang double feature Rated: 3/4 Jun 5, 2019 Full Review Dorothy Woodend The Tyee (British Columbia) The one thing that became evident to me, while watching Tarantino's homage to sewer cinema, is that even while the flesh is melting and being blown apart with bullets, if the spirit is missing, there simply isn't much point. Aug 23, 2017 Full Review Ali Gray TheShiznit.co.uk Not just a movie but an event in its own right, Grindhouse is simply unmissable in its complete form. Jarred F I liked both.....you must look at these movies as homage to late 60s early 70s. In that aspect from an artistic point of view it hits the mark. Violence should always be expected with Tarantino and Rodriguez movies. It's not over the top it's on par with all of thier movies in that way. I love violence and can't understand why people that don't like some brutality would ever watch any of these directors movies. They are well established by now. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review John G Horrible. Threw it in the trash after seeing woman purposefully beaten and killed and then body parts of next violence to women. Sick. Trash. Clearly I did not watch the entire movie but my ex-con friend I was watching with and I agreed, trash. Maybe it had some great action but we did not like taking in horrible to enjoy something later. Eject. Trash. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Ruairi M Intentionally awful movies are often great. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Steven L Planet Terror = Good Death Proof = Not Good Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review M R Grindhouse is fantastic and the concept well executed. Both films are very entertaining on their own but better with the overall presentation. They are B films but with master storytelling which I hope there is more to find of somewhere. The trailers alone are worth the watch. Not recommended for those who aren't fans of gore as Tom Savini's work is found throughout the films. Pretty Good stuff. Rating: 9/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review Marc Z This is everything you would expect from this team of filmmakers. It is a campy, violent, unique homage' to the low budget horror films of the 1960's and 1970's. Everything about it fits the bill, including the way in which it is shot. A purposefully weak plot. A script filled with campy lines. Characters that are more caricatures. It is all so well done. What is also amazing is how this film is so ahead of the Zombie craze that followed with series like "The Walking Dead" and movies like, "Last Train to Busan". This has a terrific cast, all who are in on the joke. The special effects are great. Harder to make in 2007 than it would be today. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
