In Bloom Reviews
A story about a troubled youth and how in certain places the traditions and the way life goes never actually changes.
Georgian film where we follow some families in the 1992 version of Tbilisi. Eka and Natia are kids, but they are on the verge of getting into the life of adolthood. Slowly they are exposed for more mature stuff, for both better or worse. Turbulent family lives are key here and so are their poverty. It's all right acted and it tells a rather good story. It looks good, it's very humane and realistic. Still it fail to really grip me. 6 out of 10 guns.
Great writing, acting and directing! Very real and very well told! Very proud to see this kind of a film come from Georgia!
i read reviews and noticed that not everyone understood this movie, is not about feminism, this movie is about realism of post-soviet Georgia, here was war between Russia and Georgia in 1992. going out was dangerous,so Natia's gift -gun was to defend herself and family that wasn't 6 gift or something like that. in the frame, where Natia's friend Eka dancing, this was true expression for georgians at that time, they didn't knew what to do interwar period, they didn't had a choice.
Georgia's submission to the 86th Academy Awards for Foreign Language film. Slice of life in Georgia. Awesome performances by the young leading ladies.
A film that succeeds most with what is implied to take place out of frame. The story encircles the characters while they appear to be taking part in no immediate story at all.
The lives of teenage girls, as well as their country's traditions, stand in for the bigger ideas of how a new country defends itself in war. The script is educational and the story line both normal and surprising.
Pretty young ladies about to leave school facing the feminist issues of their culture and time in Georgia, 1992.
Gritty and sometimes tender film about two teenagers growing up and having to deal with family, friendship and relationships. It is understated and leaves a lot unsaid.
A well realized coming of age tale in a society where violence and threats are a dominant language. Toys with the audiences Chekhovian expectations to increase the sense of dread. Powerful performances.
Really good. Two friends battling to preserve their womanly, fighting spirit, in a world that has no hope for them.
A surprise hit in the Espoo Cine! A Georgian film about two young girls and their lives and tribulations in the 1992 Tbilisi ruled by men and old fashioned customs. Fascinating to get a climbs to an unknown world and truly superb performances by two young girls. If you can, go see it! Clearly in top three of my cine weekend!
