What to Know

Critics Consensus

Zombie shows flashes of vision in the follow-up to his Halloween reboot, but they're smothered by mountains of gore and hackneyed, brutal violence.

Aja Romano Vox Extends this interest in psychology to Laurie Strode (played this time by Scout Taylor-Compton), plumbing the emotional and psychological connection between her and Michael. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Keith Uhlich Time Out Zombie remains committed to showing how violence lingers with, and perverts, all who are touched by it Rated: 3/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Perri Nemiroff CinemaBlend At one point in the film, a character is accused of "profiteering off the miseries of others" and that is exactly what Zombie will do to you if you see this movie. (Director's Cut) Rated: 3/5 Oct 30, 2023 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast Halloween 2 has its problems, but the all-star cast is doing great work, and the film has a surprisingly nuanced consideration of Final Girl PTSD. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 25, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Zombie's latest features no redeemable characters, gruesome violence that takes precedence over character development, and leaves the viewer feeling detached and unsettled, but not in a good way. Garry A This weird a@% sequel is a disappointment. The best dream sequence was Michael stalking Laurie in the hospital. Him having visions of his mother was an unnecessary distraction. The brutality in this one was a turn off. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Shaun R What the hell is going on with this film? Should’ve left it with the first one which Rob Zombie nailed. The ghost part/dream sequence was not what Halloween is about. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Horror fan 4 The only thing I didn't like about this movie is the ghost part of the story. Tim Treakle Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/27/25 Full Review myers the v very stupid, alright we have michael myers having visions of a white horse and his dead mother??? what is going on in this film, but the kills were great, shitty film though, also I guess were making Michael speak and BE a hobo? the original h2 should of never been remade, this was a waste of a movie.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review John R The only good thing about it was the kills and the acting at most parts Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Josh A The thing with Rob Zombie's version of Laurie Strode that we learn in this movie is that she's very different. She's more carefree and, seemingly, more evil. Maybe? This movie is essentially a full exploration of her PTSD and a deeper dive into how Michael Myers sees the world. Let's begin! The concept, as previously mentioned, is simple: after a brief homage to the original Halloween II via a dream sequence at a hospital, we see Laurie dealing with the PTSD of the previous movie and trying to move on with life. It goes horribly. This feels kinda like Terrifier 3 in a sense: it's a follow-up to a great slasher film and it's about the main character dealing with trauma, except in Terrifier's case, Sienna has to save her cousin from hell. It's a good concept and great in execution. Laurie is great too. You can see her more carefree attitude that she has in this universe. I mean, she finds out she's Michael's sister, and she goes to a party to take her mind off it instead of staying at home. Fair enough. Also the ending was strange: she's in a white room, and Michael and his mother approach. I still don't fully get what that means, but I'm guessing it suggests that Michael will live on through Laurie. It's just a great movie you can really sink your teeth into. Overall, a fantastic sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
