Critics Consensus

Zombie shows flashes of vision in the follow-up to his Halloween reboot, but they're smothered by mountains of gore and hackneyed, brutal violence.

Aja Romano Vox Extends this interest in psychology to Laurie Strode (played this time by Scout Taylor-Compton), plumbing the emotional and psychological connection between her and Michael. myers the v very stupid, alright we have michael myers having visions of a white horse and his dead mother??? what is going on in this film, but the kills were great, shitty film though, also I guess were making Michael speak and BE a hobo? the original h2 should of never been remade, this was a waste of a movie.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review John R The only good thing about it was the kills and the acting at most parts Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Josh A The thing with Rob Zombie's version of Laurie Strode that we learn in this movie is that she's very different. She's more carefree and, seemingly, more evil. Maybe? This movie is essentially a full exploration of her PTSD and a deeper dive into how Michael Myers sees the world. Let's begin! The concept, as previously mentioned, is simple: after a brief homage to the original Halloween II via a dream sequence at a hospital, we see Laurie dealing with the PTSD of the previous movie and trying to move on with life. It goes horribly. This feels kinda like Terrifier 3 in a sense: it's a follow-up to a great slasher film and it's about the main character dealing with trauma, except in Terrifier's case, Sienna has to save her cousin from hell. It's a good concept and great in execution. Laurie is great too. You can see her more carefree attitude that she has in this universe. I mean, she finds out she's Michael's sister, and she goes to a party to take her mind off it instead of staying at home. Fair enough. Also the ending was strange: she's in a white room, and Michael and his mother approach. I still don't fully get what that means, but I'm guessing it suggests that Michael will live on through Laurie. It's just a great movie you can really sink your teeth into. Overall, a fantastic sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review Andrew M Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" is a bold and unconventional sequel that ventures into uncharted territory for the slasher genre. Despite its flaws, it’s a fascinating watch for those who appreciate a more psychological approach to horror. The film delves deep into the trauma and PTSD experienced by the "Final Girl," offering a nuanced portrayal that’s rarely seen in horror films. This focus on the psychological aftermath is perhaps the movie’s greatest strength, setting it apart from typical slasher fare. The cast, especially Scout Taylor-Compton as Laurie Strode, delivers strong performances that add depth to the characters. However, the film’s relentless brutality and grim tone can be a double-edged sword. While it aims to explore the lasting impact of violence, the excessive gore and bleakness might be off-putting for some viewers. Zombie’s unique vision and willingness to take risks with the franchise are commendable. He steps away from the usual formula, adding a surreal and almost arthouse-like quality to the film. This artistic direction, while intriguing, might not resonate with everyone. Some scenes linger longer than necessary, focusing on the disturbing rather than the frightening. In the end, "Halloween II" is not your typical horror sequel. It’s a daring attempt to redefine a classic, blending intense psychological themes with visceral horror. For fans of the genre who are open to a different kind of horror experience, this film is worth a watch. Just be prepared for a journey that’s more disturbing and introspective than it is terrifying. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/05/25 Full Review Alexander S A senseless and lifeless continuation of Rob Zombie Halloween, Halloween II loses its plot amidst Michael Myers’ relentless murder spree, random sequences of Michael Myers and his ghost mother instruct him to continue killing, solely to extend Sheri Moon Zombie’s screen time, Laurie Strode, the iconic final girl, weakens and loses her sense of direction. Grading: D- Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/09/25 Full Review Brendan B Another great addition to the Halloween franchise. I can tell Rob Zombie had a love for these movies, he did a fantastic job in putting his spin on them while staying faithful to the originals. Like ive said many times with Rob Zombies movies, Haters will Hate no matter how good the movie. The biggest thing that i hate from all the hate is Rob Zombie will eventually just say Feck it and we wont get any of these amazing horror movies from an amazing storyteller.
