After failing to kill stubborn survivor Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) and taking a bullet or six from former psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence), Michael Myers (Jonathan Prince) has followed Laurie to the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, where she's been admitted for Myers' attempt on her life. The institution proves to be particularly suited to serial killers, however, as Myers cuts, stabs and slashes his way through hospital staff to reach his favorite victim.

Critics Consensus

Halloween II picks up where its predecessor left off - and quickly wanders into a dead end that the franchise would spend decades struggling to find its way out of.

Aja Romano Vox As films go, however, Halloween 2 isn't very good. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Rick Rosenthal, who directed this 1981 sequel, doesn't have Carpenter's expansive, affectionate way with stereotypical characters, and without it they're empty shells -- bodies waiting for the slaughter. Aug 27, 2007 Full Review Mike Emery Austin Chronicle A bad sequel to a good movie. Aug 27, 2007 Full Review Brian Rowe InSession Film Curtis and Donald Pleasence reuniting at the end always fills me with joy, as does the explosive final scene that feels so beautifully definitive. May 3, 2023 Full Review David Gonzalez The Cinematic Reel The tagline, “More of the Night He Came Home”, never felt truer than when watching Halloween II. Rated: 3.5 Jan 31, 2023 Full Review Cody Leach Cody Leach (YouTube) While not quite the timeless classic that the original has proven to be, Halloween II is still one of the most effective sequels in the franchise. The hospital setting paired with some memorably brutal kills shines above the fairly generic script. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Garry A It moved slow. Some of the kills were cool and the ending was good, but it was boring in parts. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/26/25 Full Review John R Just as good as the 1st one Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Josh A This is a bit like Insidious: Chapter 2 where it's a sequel to Halloween but also basically Part 2 of the story, showing the second half of the night Michael came home. But is it good? It's fairly good, but it does have its flaws, like how Laurie, the previous film's main character, is recovering in hospital for most of the film. Let's just get right into it. The movie itself is a great sequel to Halloween: it has some great horror moments, with Michael being a great threat that's usually behind our characters in a lot of scenes, conveying his stalking nature, and expands on the first film's story with stuff like Laurie being Michael's sister, an interesting twist that should've been explored more. But it has flaws, like Laurie being in hospital and the general atmosphere not feeling as strong as it does in the original. But one of the best parts of this film is, without a doubt, Michael's death. It wraps up the duology well, with Sam sacrificing himself to kill Michael and him dropping dead. Michael burning to death also fits, as he can survive gunshots so, therefore, surely lighting him on fire should work. And it does. Unless you watch Halloween 4 or H20. Then it doesn't. But it's a good ending to the story, although in theory, all the Halloween movies are. Overall, a solid sequel to Halloween. If the series ended here, it wouldn't be too bad. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Skibidi T This movie had a lot of suspense in it! I mean, Halloween II was awesome! One of the best movies of all time! 5/5 Stars from me! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Rami A It may not be as good as the first, but it still is a lot of fun to watch, even if most of the characters are idiots and Jamie Lee Curtis hardly does anything in this sequel. At least Donald Pleasance still shines as he always has, even if everyone thought he was crazy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Alexander S Halloween II is a decent continuation of Michael Myers’ murderous rampage and his pursuit of Laurie Strode, however, the film should have taken the series in an entirely new direction, deviating significantly from the first film while still setting it in different locations.
