What separates this original pic from the usual Halloween fare is that it captures the spirit of a holiday designed for kids. It's sweet and fun, but too much could definitely give you a stomach ache.

Sophie Piper would win the Family Wizard Competition. A Disney Channel Original Movie that still maintains a fanbase dedicated enough to swarm the small town of St. Helens, Oregon every October to visit the real-life shooting location for this cult classic, decades later. Being a seasonal DCOM meant Disney Channel viewers had an opportunity to come across it once a year, leading to the large fanbase it maintains today. Casting Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Cromwell makes the film feel timeless and is a draw for older viewers. It remains a solid children’s film that maintains the magic for those with nostalgia for it, but those unfamiliar with it may be more aware of its straight to television tendencies.

Sophie commits a hate crime against a ghost. But in all seriousness, Halloweentown might just be the best Halloween movie for capturing that pure feeling of childhood wonder. Sure, it’s not the best when it comes to script or visual effects, but the cast gives it their all, making the world feel livable and believable. Those early Disney Channel Original Movies really had a special charm, and Halloweentown is the perfect example of that magic. 75%
