A.A. Dowd IGN Movies Tom Hardy joins forces with The Raid director Gareth Evans for a bloody action movie that should maybe been a little better, given their respective filmographies. Not that this Netflix crime thriller fails to deliver in the adrenaline department. Rated: 6/10 Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Peter Debruge Variety The cheesy screenplay, shallow characters and wince-worthy acting suggest that Evans might be better suited to specializing in the second unit or action sequences on a major franchise, rather than writing and directing a quasi-dramatic feature. Apr 24, 2025 Full Review David Ehrlich IndieWire Rote as Evans’ plot might be, and wasteful as its treatment of certain characters definitely is, he has a well-developed ear for ice-cold gangster speak, and he isn’t afraid to make people pay a steep price for their penance. Rated: B- Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Kat Hughes THN Featuring one of the best action sequences of the year, Havoc proves that Evans remains a modern master of action cinema. Rated: 4/5 Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Jack Martin Film Feeder At times, it just becomes an onslaught of noise disguised as plot and character development, both of which remain low even as things finally begin to wrap up. Rated: 2/5 Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Brent Hankins The Lamplight Review Havoc doesn’t quite cohere as a story, but as a vehicle for pure, unrelenting action, it mostly succeeds. Those who appreciate the rhythm of well-executed violence, and don’t mind the excess that comes along with it, will find more than enough to satisfy. Audience Member A new Tom Hardy Christmas classic! The kids and I will be watching this one annually right along side Elf and Home Alone! Two thumbs up! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review Mark D Was looking forward to this but fell asleep. Hardy has performed some brilliant roles and characters but this was terrible, awful cinematography just dark scene after dark scene. Save nearly two hours of your life and don’t watch. Typical example of a film being hyped up and not doing the business. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review Kelly Jane H Review: Havoc (Netflix) Starring Tom Hardy Havoc is an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride that delivers exactly what you’d expect from a gritty Tom Hardy action film—and then some. From the very first scene, the movie plunges you into a brutal underworld of crime, corruption, and chaos. Hardy brings his signature intensity to the role of a worn-down detective caught in a web of violence, and he absolutely owns every fight, chase, and emotionally charged moment. The action sequences are relentless and raw, with a visceral, almost claustrophobic style that keeps you on edge. Whether it’s bone-crunching hand-to-hand combat or explosive shootouts, the film never lets up. The pacing is tight, the tension stays high, and there’s just enough plot to keep you hooked between the mayhem. If you’re into gritty crime dramas and love a good solo warrior-against-the-world storyline, Havoc delivers in spades. It’s a brutal, action-packed ride that showcases Tom Hardy at his best. Highly recommended for action fans! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review DanTheMan 2 Chaotic, bloody, and violently relentless, Havoc serves primarily as a canvas for Gareth Evans to paint with bullet holes and entrails. There's a vital aspect to Evans' filmmaking that has yet to lose momentum, drawing from his extensive knowledge of the heroic bloodshed genre to combine ferocious violence with themes of morality, extending his small yet combustible oeuvre. Despite taking some time to get going, when it finally breaks loose, the film delivers wave after wave of hilariously over-the-top, comic overkill and pure action mayhem with inventive, thrilling choreography that makes it seem as if his cameras are bouncing off bodies and walls. There's something refreshingly egoless to it; Hardy may have top billing but takes not only many sucker punches to the face but an entire roof to the head. Its narrative may be lacking, but nearly every other aspect isn't; unsurprisingly, the film is at its best when we’re plunged into wall-to-wall carnage. While the result is far from perfect, Havoc dispenses chaos and devastation at every opportunity, a throbbing, bone-crunching diorama of violence with the occasional horrifying, glorious flourish. Guess I need to crack on with Gangs of London Season 3 now. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review Bea B Don't waste your time unless you want to see a Neverending action movie with very little dialouge. I was excited to see this, but I was disappointed. The writing was horrible and so was the ending.
