Homefront Reviews

It has a well-constructed and connected plot, and it nicely builds up the atmosphere and tension towards the final vengeance. [Full review in Spanish]

Ryder and her role feel tacked on and Statham does what Statham does.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 12, 2021

I liked it when Statham was punching people. I liked it less when he wasn't.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Feb 1, 2021

An abundance of go-nowhere set-ups and extraneous predicaments detract from the simple enjoyment of seeing tough guy Jason Statham pound on his enemies.

| Original Score: 5/10 | Dec 3, 2020

Aside from a puzzling name, this is a movie with no pretention, that isn't trying to be anything that it isn't. "Homefront" is an action movie from an earlier generation, and if that sounds like a good time, this is a movie that you'll probably like.

| Original Score: B- | Jul 8, 2020

As much heart-pounding action as heart-stopping emotion, brings it home with action and heart.

The car chases aren't done especially well, but overall, Homefront delivers the enjoyment you'd expect from a shoot-'em-up.

Unfortunately, this formulaic retro action throwback doesn't deliver on any front. All the B-movie tropes are plentifully applied, but none have the gleeful absurdity and guilty satisfaction of Stallone's beat 'em ups or Statham's own Crank cycle.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 6, 2019

While it doesn't add anything to the aforementioned action subgenre, Statham's physicality and Stallone's old school plot maintain the standard and audience interest.

Sylvester Stallone writes a script that's aimed at cramming as many testosterone-fueled confrontations as possible without giving the film a backbone to hold it up when it falters.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Aug 14, 2018

Gary Fleder's direction and Sylvester Stallone's script is at best sloppy like that and at worst downright offensive.

... a summation of action scenes, almost without rhyme or reason. [Full review in Spanish]

Homefront makes a familiar scenario fresh, propelled by Jason Statham's Phil Broker.

| Original Score: B | Nov 29, 2017

What sets the movie apart is the performance of Franco. His turn as Gator elevates the affair.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jul 14, 2016

Homefront manages to hit all the right notes and even a few you wouldn't expect, and there's nothing expendable about that.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 4, 2015

Statham is not the English Clint Eastwood yet, but if someone fancied calling him Dirty Jason... who knows?

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 10, 2014

Homefront is as gleefully dumb and thoroughly entertaining.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Aug 18, 2014

Oh, and did I mention that Sylvester Stallone adapted the screenplay for this from a novel? Because that.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Apr 23, 2014

When Jason Statham stops to pat a kitten after MacGyvering up the bad guy's meth-lab to explode when the lights are switched on, you will either groan or giggle... if you are inclined towards the latter you may find quite a bit of enjoyment in Homefront.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Apr 22, 2014

The climax is a muddle and borderline preachy
