Hot Summer Nights Reviews
A young Timothee Chalomet flashes potential here, but he's mostly stoic and quiet (and nerdy!) Maika Monroe was great, while Alex Roe and the supporting cast were just fine. Director Elijah Bynum spins a mostly dark, depressing yarn, perhaps intending it as a cautionary tale. According to the film's opening credits 'Summer Nights' is based on a true story. Sunshine and rainbows it's not, but if you like these particular stars (I do) it's worth a watch.
The story is well told, but very fast-paced, which makes some parts seem choppy. Nevertheless, I find the actual love story authentic and playful. It might not resonate with 20- or 30-year-olds, but for those older, it resonates with a certain touch of nostalgia.
I can't believe this film received such low ratings. "Hot Summer Nights" is a thrilling depiction of teenage love, fun, and the dark consequences of crime and greed gone horribly awry. The cinematography is wonderful, with vibrant visuals that brilliantly evoke the nostalgia of the 90s. The soundtrack is also fantastic. Thank you, Elijah Bynum for this craft!
In my opinion this movie was amazing I love the thrill it gives you and the actual beauty of real love they captured everything perfectly.
95% of the time, Rotten Tomatoes audience gets the score just about right. This is the 5% of the time they didn't. Criminally underrated movie with great directing, solid acting, and an amazing soundtrack. If you're looking for that teenage coming of age summer vibe but with drugs, this is the scratch.
good actors, good soundtrack, plenty of 90's nostalgia.
This is why america is screwed up. Hokeywood makes heroes of criminals and gets teens into trouble when they emulate these criminals.
I loved this film! The director had tremendous style and so many scenes looked surreal. Great actors, music. I don't get the criticisms. And Maika Monroe, gorgeous!!
I've watched over 100,000 films and if you were 17 in summer of 92', this film is spot on. Don't trust critics. This film is excellent and shows POV from every angle. By far my favorite coming of age film. Great story, great cast, great soundtrack. Critics cannot relate because they didn't live this. Great film!!
I just wanna know the truth……………..
Watched baby Chalamet. Meh.
While this is a fairly boring movie a young Timothee Chalamet and a great soundtrack make it worth the watch.
I don't understand why it's so underrated. Compared to the overrated Licorice Pizza, this is also a pretty good story.
Under rated. Actually real good movie. Surprised I never heard about it. Great story. Great cast. Kinda sad. Overall, great movie.
Didn't plan on watching this but it came on and never made me want to turn it off. Better than expected and avoided getting too emotional or sentimental, which is what I was expecting it to do, so it did surprise in some regards.
Timothée Chalamet and Maika Monroe carry this film, there chemistry is top notch, and their relationship progression is infectious. The story is far-fetched and over the top, I have a hard time believing a high school kid can create a weed empire over the course of a couple months. And what was he supposed to do when he had to return to his moms after the summer? Despite the story's flaws, this movie was incredibly enjoyable with excellent performances by our two leads, plenty of laughs, cut romantic quirks, and some downright scary scenes. Score: 68% Verdict: Good
Not a fan. Dragged and boring
Visually stunning, best soundtrack in years, interesting story and good acting. It's a mix that stays in your head long after end credits roll. My advice to anyone that loves cinema is to ignore ratings and reviews. Watch it for yourself, you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was. I'm so glad I didn't skip this gem by trusting its scores.
Good movie. Not perfect but the casting was spot on and the actors all played their roles well. Some flaws with the film and the ending feels rushed but could see them ending it quickly thinking it would leave people hanging. It didn't.
