Huesera: The Bone Woman Reviews
Mis expectativas en películas de terror ya son bajas, pero esta se sintió muy lineal de principio a fin no hay sustos, revelaciones o desenlaces que hagan cambiar el ritmo de la película casi como ver un protector de pantalla con movimiento por hora y media
Valeria (Natalia Solian) is pregnant with her first child but begins to see visions of a broken woman. Outstanding acting from the lead in this disquieting tale of tokophobia (fear of pregnancy) and post-partum depression. It's about the battle of expectations against the desires of being queer. Some great jump scares. Recommended
Totalmente olvidable
It's marketed as a horror film and that was what I was after. The horror elements are very low key - it's more like the woman is having paranoid delusions. The movie does ramp up the horror aspects near the end though. I suspect this has gotten such a hihg rating because it's mostly not a horror film. If you are after a movie about a pregnant woman and later mother of newborn who's having paranoid delusions and goes to a spiritualist to solve it, it's probably up your alley. If you are a regular horror fan I would give this a miss.
a fascinating folktale that contrasts the visceral nature of breaking bones to the subtle process of conformation.
Not sure why this movie had such high ratings. It was slow, the ending lacked significantly and though it had a few unsettling & dare I say creepy moments it was not worth the time invested to watch it in its entirety
This is a nuanced atmospheric psychological drama with some creepy imagery that won't be for everyone. This isn't for the average horror hound looking to turn off their brain to gore and jump scares. This is a carefully crafted allegory of motherhood with body horror thrown in to visually show the protagonist's true inner desires and regrets. If you're willing to be patient and pay attention, then this will be a horror gem.
A chilling tale on the depiction of how postpartum depression creeps on you, and how that feels. The sounds and the imagery are very well thought and executed.
Fantastic and terrifying
Wow! Mexico 🇲🇽 does it again, delivering one of the finest motion pictures (Huesera - The Bone Woman) made in the last decade. We also get one of the most complete and intricate performances I have ever seen. The lead actress goes through every emotional state imaginable, from joy to despair to rejection to insanity to fear, etc. Any aspiring actor should see this movie if nothing more than a deep dive study into the complete mastery of acting. The performance conjures a similar, visceral feeling that we got from Toni Collette in Hereditary, but is even more engrossing. The film is an immaculate visual depiction of Mexico, similar to Y Tu Mama Tambien. I literally remember being in houses exactly like the ones in the film when we were in Mexico City. The depth of the story and character development are immaculate. The primary theme is that of conforming to societal expectations around motherhood, and the inner torment that can come when a woman makes choices about her body based on what others expect of a woman. On a more exact level, it deals with this idea that a woman is one organ - the uterus - and her sole purpose is to be a mother, thereby stripping her of everything else that makes her who she is. It is a strong statement on societal norms, and despite being a horror film, has a very uplifting ending. Sad, but beautiful. A woman's journey from being a prisoner of society to cleansing herself and being who SHE wants to be. There are some heavy hitting lesbian sex scenes, and it is a horror movie, so it's not light in any way. However, if you can watch it, the impact and importance are well worth it.
Really slow build up to absolutely nothing. No climax, no real creep factor, the climax falls right off a cliff into boring.
Portrays the very real fears surrounding motherhood. The changes to the body are so extreme, someone pregnant may feel like their bones will break.
Intrigante con suspenso y terror psicológico, buenas actuaciones. Personalmente opino que no es perfecta hubieron cosas que considero pudieron ser mejores pero cumple muy bien.
This is a drama pretending to be a scary movies and so neither work. Nor does the whole story. Blah. Don't waste your time.
Una película que refleja claramente las costumbres y creencias de las familias mexicanas ! Algo que le da un plus a la película, es que no cuenta con los típicos jump scare que solo los meten por meter.
Hubo más desnudos que sentido en la película. Decepcionante.
I kept waiting for the movie to pick up and then...it ended.... What an absolute snoozefest that was! No amount of symbolism or whatever hidden message that was supposed to deliver, was worth wasting the evening for me. Definitely rotten.
No way this is a 97%. Don't fall for it like a did. It's not worth your time
