Humane Reviews

Apr 27, 2025

An interesting premise and slightly thought-provoking, but it's only the performances of an exceptional cast that makes this movie worth staying to the ending, which, by the way, seems written by someone with no understanding of human nature.

Interesting story with excellent surprises.

It had it's quirks but I thought it was quite interesting. Sebastian Chacon did real great as his role of Noah, he was definitely my favorite character.

Not sure how this film got so many outstanding reviews. It wasn’t the worst but definitely not the best. The acting was alright and the premise was unique but there was a glaring plot hole I couldn’t get over. The execution was a bit rushed (I usually like a tighter quick film) but some of the dark humour lands home. It’s alright for a watch if you have nothing else to do but it is far from a perfect film.

This movie was worth a watch. It had a original horror setting that delt with overpopulation and other world problems. The parents of a prominent family invite their children over for dinner. They procede to tell their children that they they have volunteered to be euthanized and thar the kids would get all the money. Well, mom decides to change her mind. They need a second body, which pits the rest of the family against each other. The horror begins at this point and the viewer has to watch how the rest of the movie plays out.

For me, this movie fits into the 'it's so bad it's good' category. It's supposed to be a post-apocalyptic story, but it feels anything but that. The acting was mediocre, and the characters were unlikable. However, I still enjoyed this movie, and I found myself laughing at how bad it was.

The concept of this movie is pretty good, government needs to reduce population so pays people to be euthanised. Rich guy invites family round to tell them he's enlisted to do this. All kinda makes sense and can go along with the general idea. The rest of the movie makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, the company that come and do it, the behaviour of the family, every action, further development of the original concept, decisions of everyone involved, nothing works. There is that single original concept, and thats it. But actually that single thing was kinda enough to keep watching and see how it plays out, to its inevitable dissatisfying ending. Nice idea. Ok to watch, could have been way better in every single way.

The first half of the movie starts off kind of boring and a bit political, so it's hard to get into it in the first 45 minutes. Later, it does get much better and leaves you more on the edge of your seat and gives you a twist ending. If you can get through the first half of this movie, you'll most likely enjoy the second.

Political correctness run amok. In the first 20 minutes they give lectures on global warming, illegal immigrants, misinformation, and a slew of other social issues. It belongs on MSNBC or PBS.

Decent movie. Despite what some say I wouldn't really classify this as a "horror" movie. It's obviously sci-fi themed about global warming finally beating us (in the near future) and destroying the ozone layer, essentially a commentary on overpopulation. So to help the country the US government asks people to "enlist" to be euthanized and the movie is centered around this one family going through a debacle with the department people who come over to do the procedures. Movie has dark humor elements thanks mostly to Enrico Colantoni and a dash of Jay Baruchel and some thriller moments, but it's definitely not "scary" or too gory. Now for some griping.. spoiler alert: Despite me enjoying the movie, mostly due to the decent runtime (movie doesn't waste a ton of time) which allowed me to stay focused and interested in what's going to happen, there seems to be a gaping plot hole around the halfway point. When the rest of the siblings originally united to team up against Noah, WHY didn't they just run out of the house and tell Bob they all voted and they pick Noah. Then the "guards" would go capture Noah and do the procedure on him. Other than Rachel's one off comment about "what if we provide a body", Bob had originally said, "if you don't pick, I'll pick for you," which to me indicates that if they took too long then he'd walk in and just point to someone and that's the one they'd tie down and euthanize (or just shoot?). So when the other siblings spending 20 minutes of the movie trying to kill each other it doesn't really make sense. But other than that foolishness, it was decent.

It’s a really fun twist on an end of world type trope. It gives me similar vibes as the first purge movie. I’m shocked it isn’t rated higher!

i really liked this; it's a super interesting concept & everyone played their parts really well.

Sizzling outside the scar is people's skin in sun's raw light while the poor stand in queue with UV repellent umbrellas this is enough to justify the project but the twist loose it's hype cause of the confinement. If unrestrained the story would have had many avenues to go about. And the siblings rivalry was too sweet for the tone previously set. Decent visuals and audio effects. Unique set of characters with contrasting personalities. Story's critique on extreme consumerism and government's incapability amidst a crisis is the true horror in this prophesy. So there's a story to enjoy and a theme about which we should come to a sense.

Is a great horror thriller, with some decent acting by a couple of well known actors and then some familiar faces thrown in. Dystopian, with realistic slasher moments and the cronenberg body horror we expect from the cronenberg movie making family. Short film at a hour and a half that explores social issues while running in place and not quite exploring the ideas enough for many. Showing some extremely disturbing family dynamics that many will unfortunately find relatable. This 2024 Canadian dystopian horror film is worth the watch.

Fans of the sub-genres involved should appreciate it enough to get through it, and the very plausible horror aspect is definitely a presence. The main fault is a lack of greater consequences despite the dire world of the characters who fail to elicit any empathy for their plight in that world. It never felt like it was going any place or like any surprising twists would happen, and it didn’t and there weren’t.

Using the current ecological crisis as its backdrop, Humane, presents a terrifyingly real depiction of the potential dystopian extremes that humanity is hurtling towards and the further dystopian extremes that may be required if humanity continues to ignore them. Although, it does seem to have difficulty at times choosing a path between drama, comedy, and horror.

Wanted to be politically and socioeconomically conscious, then didn't. Then wanted to be again, the whole time ruining a great premise for a movie. Feel bad for the actors because they deserved better. Never left a review before but was genuinely disappointed by what could have been.

Great cast and premise, but falls apart after the first death.

Sep 15, 2024

Politics aside, horror movies are completely boring when you don't care if a single character lives, and the only characters who were potentially likable had very little screen time.

Good dark comedy, thriller. The only part I didn't like was the in credits clip which didn't make sense with last scene. Liked it !
