I Am Divine Reviews
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crossdresser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heartfelt & sincere portrait of a performer who was the personification of “larger than life”. Fills in a lot of gaps for those who weren’t aware of any “non-Waters” efforts. Not many surprises, but engaging nonetheless. #nitrosMovieChallenge
the only reason i even know Divine is because of pink flamingos - which i don't recommend, if you're curious - i can't believe it gets as much praise as it does & i can't believe people love him/her so much for it. it's a well done documentary & i did learn things about her that i wasn't aware of before... her content isn't my cup of tea, but it was a nice tribute to her work.
I went with 2 1/2 stars for this docu. I have only seen this docu. once and I think that I would watch it again. I would reccomened it to anybody that is a fan of John Waters or Devine. I thought that it was a good docu. that had many interviews throughout from other famous, and non famous people that knew him. Very interesting docu. on Devine.
It provides a great look at the life of one of the biggest drag queens of all time and talented character actor. It is done in a way that people can relate to the struggles and talent of Divine as well as how these seemingly odd movies became cult classics and how Divine was responsible for that. It makes me hope John Waters makes a Divine biopic in the near future
Especially if you enjoy John Waters' films, you must see the life of "Divine."
This was something I ran across on Netfux Streaming, and I was very impressed with how much there was to learn about the man who was John Waters' muse and star for so many years. Well worth tracking down for fans of the fringe cinema in which she starred, and for those looking to see what made her tick. Highly recommended.
Legend. This is an icon that inspired so many & still touches so many lives who passed away at the pinnacle of his career. A fitting documentary to one of the filthiest on screen, but humble off of it. I will forever adore Divine & everything he/she stood for. Most amazing work ethic ever.
A fascinating individual remembered through excellent archive footage and interviews with friends and family. Well worth a watch.
Interesting documentary, just not as probing as I would've preferred. The film is extremely biased in its approach to Divine's life, trying its hardest to ignore the fact that Divine wasn't everyone's cup of tea. The late drag queen was an extremely intriguing figure of cinema however, so the documentary holds your attention nonetheless, but if you're looking for a more raw account of the star then you need not apply.
The perfect documentary/biopic. I love John Waters' films and his personality as well as his partnership with Divine, an actor and an icon in the LGBT community.
Great documentary about a fascinating figure. I didn't truly know who Divine was until I watched it!
I Am Divine is a terrific documentary about the life, work, and death of Divine, a male crossdressing homosexual who got into the movie business via John Waters, but also became an underground hit with the Hollywood scene, and later, a recording artist; while also paving the way for further acceptance of crossdressers and gay men within the industry. This documentary is quite informative, touching, and genuinely entertaining, talking to as many parties as possible, including John Waters himself. It's also a documentary that makes you want to seek out the work that's being discussed; in this case, making you want to revisit Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble. Great in all respects, this is a great look into the life of a man who became larger than life, both physically and in persona.
I love documentaries about subcultures, especially ones I don't know almost anything about. I Am Divine does this in such an interesting way, by taking us through the world of John Waters through the life of Divine. This is a character documentary all about the complex personality that is Harris Glenn Milstead, or Divine. It's pretty outrageous at times, but always compassionate. It seems to be a very affectionate documentary told by people who really cared about the subject.
