I Am Evidence Reviews
Mariska Hargitay presents, once again, to the world a crime that is rarely talked about.
This film is eye opening. So much is wrong with the justice system re rape. Statute of limitations, rape kits destroyed or untested... Not aware of anything more recent on this topic, but definitely worthy of follow up film.
I Am Evidence is an illuminating documentary about the excessive number of untested rape kits across the U.S., illustrating the human element of the story by following the cases of several women. I had the privilege of seeing it at a small screening with one of the women featured in the film, which added depth to the experience. My main criticism is the film's suggestion at several points the reason the rape kits weren't tested was primarily due to sexual/racial/class bias of police officers and society in general, rather than the more likely explanation police departments in large cities are strapped for resources, overburdened with active emergencies, and rape cases are difficult to clear or prosecute (although these are hinted at). Certainly these biases exist, as the documentary shows, but the totalizing claim "Nobody cares about women" is demonstrably false. The film otherwise depicts a balanced view of police. The most powerful element of the film for me was the footage of warehouses full of untested rape kits, and the thought each one of the boxes represents a woman who was raped, underwent an invasive procedure to gather the evidence in that box, and is futilely waiting for justice.
A damning and insightful look into the world of rapes and solving these crimes. Too many rape kits go unchecked in DNA labs and police warehouses. Its a serious problem as most of these men go on to rape more victims.
Great movie really got me sentimental I just did not like the ending where I saw that sick fuck Joe Biden he looks like a child molester, but other than that really touching film its great to see these sick fucks behind bars.
