Audience Member Tedious and simplistic. If you have seen one 'two legs good, four legs bad' trope, then you have seen this. It felt really real and had a lot of emotional honesty and psychological depth. The movie doesn鈥檛 fit neatly into a genre or category but it was quite impressive. Also nicely uses some Ann Arbor scenery to provide the setting. As he becomes infatuated with a woman, his desire for her complete and undivided attention spirals into obsession. When she fails to provide the constant validation he craves, he descends into madness, becoming increasingly unhinged and blaming her for his turmoil. One of the film's strengths is its ability to showcase the complexities of both main characters, allowing viewers to understand their perspectives while also introducing a supportive friend group. The narrative continually toes the line of intensity, leaving audiences in suspense about whether it will plunge into darker territory or remain on a more subdued path. Regrettably, the film ultimately settles into a safe zone. It never fully embraces the potential for deeper psychological drama, opting instead to stay on the fringes of true madness. This decision feels like a missed opportunity, as the story would have benefitted from more thrilling elements鈥攕uch as intense confrontations or moments of genuine peril, like a climactic scene involving the woman's ex-lover that could have added significant tension. While I found the movie to be reasonably entertaining and engaging enough to watch, it undeniably fell short of its potential. With a bolder approach, it could have transformed into a gripping thriller that truly captivated the audience. Instead, it remained within its comfort zone, leaving me longing for a more daring exploration of its themes. Everyone knows someone or has been someone that went through something just like this. This watch proves to be both nuanced and unambiguous, complex and straight-foward in the ways that it has viewers begging Mackenzie to leave and instilling the fear of what will happen if she does. The sardonic humor was refreshing, breaking the hard-to-stomach scenes up and creating familiarity in the sense that most of the time the only way to deal with this kind of trauma is to recognize and match absurdity with hilarity.
