Ice Princess Reviews

Mar 9, 2025

Ice Princess is a fun, lighthearted movie with a simple but engaging plot. It follows a classic underdog story, making it easy to root for the main character. While the storyline isn’t groundbreaking, it works well for a family-friendly film, keeping things straightforward without unnecessary drama. The directing is solid, balancing the emotional moments with the sports aspects, and the pacing keeps things moving without dragging. The cinematography captures the elegance of figure skating, making the performances visually appealing, even if some scenes feel a bit predictable. Michelle Trachtenberg delivers a strong performance, carrying the movie with ease. She makes the character relatable, and her acting adds depth to the story. The supporting cast does a good job as well, though no one really steals the spotlight from her. The script is decent, with natural dialogue that fits the tone of the film. The music and sound design complement the skating sequences, adding energy where needed. Overall, it is an enjoyable and well-put-together movie that makes for a great watch, especially for a casual family night. Michelle Trachtenberg's presence, both on and off screen, was exceptional. She will be deeply missed.

Such a cute movie about mother-daughter relationships. Casey is a high school girl who is studious and who is aiming to get into a top university to study physics. Her physics project leads her to become interested in ice skating. She begins by observing ice skating for her project, but then takes a class, and then finds that she loves it. She participates in a class recital, then in a competition because she was able to skip a few levels. But the very woman who advanced her level also bought her new skates at the competition, even though every skater knows that you can't compete in new skates since it takes a while to break them in. The woman was worried that Casey would beat her own daughter. The daughter is mad that her mom did this and drops out of the competition, since she wanted to have more of a life and her mom was making her skate too much. She wanted to go to school, study, hang out with her boyfriend. Casey then gets bumped up and gets to compete, since the daughter dropped out. Casey informs Harvard during her interview with them that she doesn't want to go there anymore. She competes and doesn't get first place, but does pretty well. Her mom ends up going to her competition and supports her when she sees how beautiful, graceful and strong Casey is. This sort of reminded me of aerial apparatuses! Since physics rules also apply to that and it also makes me feel beautiful, graceful and strong.

When my daughter picked Ice Princess as the movie she wanted to watch with the family, I wasn’t overly enthused. However, I ended up enjoying it. It’s a cheesy Disney movie and that’s okay. Michelle Trachtenberg is a likeable protagonist, and both Kim Cattrall & Joan Cusack are acting as if this is a regular dramatic role instead of a teen flick. There also aren’t as many one-dimensional characters as I expected. I missed a part in the middle because I had to drop another kid off at a football game, but I ended up going back and watching that part on my own, which I think proves I liked Ice Princess.

Very cute movie for all the figure skating fans! 5 stars!

A science geek blooms as a figure skater in this coming of age story. This movie is targeting the young teenage girl demographic, that I am not a part of. There is some solid acting in this movie from Joan Cusack, Kim Cattrall and Hayden Panettiere. The lead played by Michelle Trachtenberg has a few quality moments as well. There were some surprising character moments in this movie as the plot took them in different directions then what I was expecting. The writing was fine until about the third act when all the characters needed drama and became really mean spirited. There was some cinematography that did not hide the stunt doubles very well. The lead character’s best friend disappeared for the middle half of the movie and I felt that was a loss of possible character development. I did enjoy watching this film and would recommend it, but the problems mentioned above most likely means it will not be for everyone.

This Disney film falls into the category of being just okay, where viewers find themselves intermittently engaged and disconnected from the story. It's a puzzling experience where it's hard to pinpoint exactly what works, but easier to identify aspects that don't quite hit the mark. Disney's transition from successful cartoon shows to live-action sitcoms and movies often results in a shift towards corny and unreliable storytelling. The magic that Disney captures in its animated works doesn't always translate effectively to its live-action ventures, leading to a sense of cheesiness and inconsistency in their productions. The casting choice for the lead actress, Michelle, also contributes to the film's shortcomings. While she may excel in certain roles, her performance in this Disney movie feels off, adding to the overall sense of disconnect and confusion among viewers. Michelle's relevance in the industry has waned over time, leaving audiences questioning her suitability for various roles and impacting the overall viewing experience. In conclusion, this Disney film struggles to find its footing, oscillating between moments of engagement and detachment for viewers. The blend of corniness, unreliable storytelling, and a misfit lead actress detracts from the film's potential and leaves audiences feeling underwhelmed by the overall execution.

Awful dialog, terrible acting, and stilted unoriginal storyline. Even Joan Cusack and Kim Catrall can't rescue this. Only credit is to the stunt doubles who pull off the skating. Not worth watching, find something else

It has that classic 00's exaggerated drama acting sprinkled all over it. So that even the slowest children understand that a certain scene is meant to be taken seriously. But the message about getting reconfirmed you're not good enough ought to be encouraged. As long as you gave it your all. Because having the guts to go all in means way more than winning, is a message I haven't seen depicted too often in film.

Ice princess really make me believe you can hace another passion in your life and out of your confort zone

'Ice Princess' is good. Nothing more, nothing less. There are enjoyable performances from Michelle Trachtenberg (Casey), Hayden Panettiere (Gen), Kim Cattrall (Tina) and Joan Cusack (Joan - creative!). Even if the latter two's characters are irritating at times, but that is intentional to be fair. There's also an appearance for Erik King, which I guess you could say was a "Surprise!" ... Props are in order for Christophe Beck, who I thought did a top job with the music - all of which suited events very well. The premise, which entails figure skating, is entertaining enough to see unfold. It's nothing special, but is certainly a harmless and fine production from 2005.

Great watch, will watch again, and can recommend. I've been a big Michelle Trachtenberg fan since "Harriett the Spy", and I'm a nerd for science so mixing the two together makes a minimal good watch for me: it would have been hard for them to ruin this for me. The premise feels weak as it's a "coming of age" story with a focus in the physics of figurine skating, but the execution is wonderful. Kim Cattrall, Hayden Panettiere and the other skaters all embody the insanity of the ice skating culture and establish the world that Michelle Tratchenburg and Joan Cusack's characters are forced to deal with. In the end it becomes a story of passions (clearly stated in the movie) and really feels uplifting and inspiring despite the absurdity of the situations. I know that when I throw this on, I'm going to enjoy a movie.

Yes the story is impossible but it is really cute, with strong performances from both the kids and the adults and some believable family drama.

One of Disney's most nostalgic, underrated memories, the premise skips around the predictability to bring something mature to the Disney teen drama.

Pleasantly humble to skate a heart-shaped performance with synchronized music for graceful elegance, fine efforts to join Disney's cheerful sports hall of fame, and cliché routine from the everlasting communication of following your dreams to a recognizable nature that the televised branch specializes in. Skating to a total, rounded-up score of sweet without combatting with forgiveness towards the stock and pretentious restriction. (B)

This movie is so good! Michelle Trachtenburg was great in it! I love watching movies with her in it. This is a severely underrated Disney movie. Ice Princess is my childhood film. It's a feel-good movie worth watching. Ice Princess encourages you to follow your dreams no matter what. Rating: 6.6/10
